Speckbacher Hut on Kreuzberg

Simple but very pleasant hut. We visited in bright sunshine and were served by a host who was just as radiant. You can't go wrong with the schnitzels and homemade cakes on a Kreuzberg hike. Another highlight seen by many is the old rhododendron tree. According to stories, it is one of the oldest and largest in Europe and is at least 105 years old.

Today's hike took me from Breitenstein train station to the Kreuzberg to the Speckbacherhütte in fantastic weather and offered a wonderful view of the Semmering Railway World Heritage Site, as well as the Rax, the Schneeberg. There is a 116-year-old, huge rhododendron at the Speckbacher Hütte. Very good food with large portions. Perfect destination for a leisurely hike 👍😋🍺 https://www.die-speckbacher.at
