Kejimkujik National Park is a beautiful nature reserve right in the heart of Nova Scotia. Kejimkujik means ‘little fairies’ in the Mi'kmaw language – mystical forests and a magical atmosphere on this almost 5-kilometre (3-mi) hike really do make it feel like you’re walking through a fairytale.

🎶Weekend and sunshine....🌞 Not quite: today is - I think - Thursday 🤔 and the sun has hidden behind a blanket of clouds for the first time today😶. For our last day in Kejimkujik National Park we planned two hikes. The Hemlock & Hardwoods Trail is in the north of the NP, a gravel road about 3km long with a few potholes leads up to the Big Dam car park. The moderate circular tour takes us on winding paths mainly between tall firs👍. Various signs provide information about the life of the trees 🌲. There is even a short boardwalk 🤩. Animals are also rare here😔, but I spot an eagle owl high up in the branches some distance away🦉😻. There are individual places for wild camping 🏕 at the adjacent lake: wood, toilet, fireplace🔥, dead silence👻 - everything is there. Here we spend some time gathering our emotions💭 and taking a deep breath. Back at the jeep it is only 11:00 a.m.🙃. We set off on the next discovery tour...🥾
