Hiking

Ready for a long tour with three summit victories? This varied round with the Saukarfunktel as part of the "Salzburg Summit Game" offers you lots of nature and wonderful views over the Flachau valley.

And it starts with a lift ride: Starjet 1 and 2 float you up into the wonderful hiking world of the Grießenkar, Flachau's local mountain. You climb straight onto the scenic path and let it lead you first to the Kriegerkreuz, then on to the Grießenkareck. The route then leads to the Saukarfunktel, a proud member of the "Salzburg Summit Game", a hiking experience that inspires mindful perception of various mountain peaks.

You hike south along the ridge to the Frauenalm, which invites you to refresh yourself with great regional delicacies. Then a wonderfully natural path with wide views leads you back to the Grießenkaralmen and to the Starjet 2 mountain station.

Grießenkareck Summit

Highlight • Summit

A great place with a wonderful view. The last part of the climb is a bit arduous, but it's worth all the effort. It's certainly a bit of a challenge for kids, but it's definitely doable. And once you're at the top, any effort fades into the background anyway.

Saukarfunktel Summit (2,024 m)

Highlight • Summit

From the mountain station of the Starjet 2, the path leads – past the Latschenhof – through the ski area for a good 30 minutes. Then you leave the road and climb the 1,991 meter high Grießenkareck, visible from afar, via a somewhat steeper path. And only now do you discover the Saukarfunktel behind it: the summit has the shape of a small pyramid and consists of mighty boulders that are covered with lichen.

August 30, 2024, Panorama Wanderung Grießenkareck und Saukarfunktel

The hike was simply great, the path was beautiful but very strenuous. The view was amazing, the Frauenalm was also very beautiful (men are allowed to go there too 😉)

So...the Komotapp automatically ends and starts the tour again, what nonsense. We were on the road for 6 hours, covering about 12km and what felt like 700m of elevation gain, but the trails were beautiful, with an incredible mountain backdrop...great.

Translated by Google

Start possible from Flachau (with the “Starjet 1 & 2” mountain railway) or from Wagrain (with the “Flying Mozart” mountain railway). The view from each peak is great. We had great weather without a cloud in the sky and you could see the distant mountain panorama. We particularly liked the second half because there were only a few other hikers on this part in the middle of the forest and we were able to enjoy nature.

A long but beautiful tour. Also for young adventurers.

Wonderful high-altitude trails, but we were short on time, the last lift down to the valley leaves at 4:45 p.m. Well signposted, proper footwear recommended, sections suitable for families.

Very nice and varied tour with great panoramic views

Very good and varied to walk with 4 children (7-11 years old) - with hiking boots, fitness and a little sure-footedness. Short sections of gravel path, otherwise consistently beaten paths (50% mountain path, 50% forest path) - highlights for young and old, but never really dangerous. 4 1/2 hours total time was quite ambitious with such little kids - the last descent of the chairlift to Flachau drove us. Too bad - there would have been inviting places to stop or take a break in the rocks, in the alpine meadows or at mountain streams.

About 40% went over snow cover.... quite demanding
