This route was planned by komoot.
The full Panorama tour is estimated to take around 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete. This duration is for the entire 11.2 km route, which includes significant elevation gain and descent.
While the full route is classified as moderate and requires good fitness, it's highly adaptable. You can shorten or ease the hike significantly by using cable cars like the Hörnerbahn Bolsterlang and the Weltcup-Express Ofterschwang. This makes it possible for families and even 'mountain novices' to enjoy easier sections with fewer ascents and descents.
Specific parking information isn't provided in the tour data, but Ofterschwang and Bolsterlang, being popular starting points for the Hörnerdörfer region, typically offer designated parking areas near the cable car stations or trailheads. It's advisable to check local signage upon arrival.
The trail offers varied terrain, including accessible paths made of asphalt, gravel, and natural forest paths. Be prepared for some steeper sections, especially when ascending or traversing peaks like the Ofterschwanger Horn. You might encounter a 'steep scree path' or a 'very steep forest road' in parts, so sure-footedness is generally required for the moderate sections.
You'll be treated to spectacular and wide-ranging panoramic views throughout the tour. Highlights include expansive vistas of the Allgäu Alps and the Illertal. From summits like the View from the summit of Ofterschwanger Horn and the Rangiswanger Horn summit cross, you can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of the Allgäuer Hochalpenkamm.
The route is rich with scenic spots. You'll pass by the cozy Hochbichl Hut (Canapé Hut), enjoy a fantastic View of Grünten, and take in the View from the summit of Ofterschwanger Horn. Other notable spots include the Rangiswanger Horn summit cross and a broad View of the Allgäu Valley.
The Panorama tour is best enjoyed during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn, when the trails are clear of snow and the weather is most stable for hiking in the Alps. This allows for the best panoramic views and access to all sections of the trail.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several other trails. You'll find yourself on parts of the Nord Süd Trail, Abschnitt Weiler im Allgäu - Ofterschwang, and the Hörner Höhenweg. It also briefly touches the 10 - Nagelfluhtour Rohrmoos-Runde and the Radrunde Allgäu.
Generally, dogs are allowed on hiking trails in the Allgäu Alps. However, as parts of this route may pass through or near the Wildschutzgebiet Ostertal, it's crucial to keep dogs on a leash to protect local wildlife and respect regulations. Always ensure your dog is well-behaved and capable of handling the varied terrain.
No specific permits or entrance fees are required to hike the Panorama tour itself. However, please note that parts of the route are within the Wildschutzgebiet Ostertal (wildlife protection area). While there are no fees for entry, it's essential to respect the regulations of such areas, which typically include staying on marked paths, not disturbing wildlife, and keeping dogs on a leash.
Yes, there are several alpine huts (Einkehrmöglichkeiten) along the way where you can stop for rest and refreshments. Notable options include the Hochbichl Hut (Canapé Hut), as well as others like the Weltcup-Hütte and Sennalpe Ornach, providing perfect spots to refuel and enjoy the scenery.
The Panorama tour Ofterschwang, also known as the 'Hörner Panorama Tour,' was nominated for 'Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2022' for good reason. Its unique appeal lies in the combination of consistently stunning, wide-ranging panoramic views from multiple 'Hörner' (peaks) and its exceptional adaptability. The option to use cable cars at Bolsterlang and Ofterschwang allows hikers of all fitness levels to customize their experience, making it accessible while still offering a classic mountain adventure.
Excellent tour, but the descent is very steep and gravelly. I recommend poles here. Or the alternative is the Hörnerbahn (which was unfortunately already closed).
Most beautiful hike in the Allgäu Alps😍😇. Lots of sun and a bit cool. Well, it was a tough hike, but otherwise great.👍 Lots of nature 🥰🥾😍😇
Oops! Better prepared than for the Starzlachklamm tour, I thought, but another 🅿️ with a maximum of 1 hour. So continue to the WeltcupExpress valley station and park with the PARKSTER APP (a real recommendation everywhere in the Oberallgäu) for €2. Shortly before the World Cup hut, a magnificent view of the entire Nagelfluh chain from noon to the Hochgrat (still on my ToDo) and on the other side Jungholz, Rubihorn and the Alllgäu High Alps with fantastic October weather and summer temperatures. Just a great day today.! Accordingly, it was on the Ofterschwanger Horn as on the Stachus! 😀 The panoramic trail is really great; always great views of the Illertal and the opposite mountain range. Short detour to the Sigiswanger Horn. Here a summit cross ekes out its lonely existence surrounded by spruce trees without a distant view. But the way back and down is always rewarded with this unique Oberallgäu landscape view. Speaking of rewards: Finally, a fresh pint at the root hut. At this point, thanks to SBiker, who not only had the idea for a €20 nest egg in the cell phone case, but also gave me the 1st twentieth. Thanks SBiker.
Just in time to see a few alpine roses blooming
A very nice start 🔥 The beginning was very steep, maybe a little too steep for the first hike on vacation. After a short rain break, we went on to the Rangiswanger Horn, where we were rewarded with a wonderful view of the Alps. Then on to the Ofterschwanger Horn, where there were unfortunately quite a lot of people because the lift and the huts are open there. You couldn't be squeamish today either. Due to the heavy rain tonight and this morning it was very muddy at times. Only Komoot made the detour at kilometer 2.5 and not me. You can deduct 1.5 km from the total distance and the climb went up steeply without a break (altitude profile at Leandra_07). The altitude meters are correct, however. All in all, however, it was a nice and varied tour! I found the tour on Komoot at @Christof, but he still took the Sigiswanger Horn with him. We skipped this one, however, as there was only one off-grid section up there.
The starting point is at the top of the cable car. The end point is at the bottom of the mountain railway at the Schlitte Hitte, where you can stop for a bite to eat.
