What is a "Waldhusche" (forest sled)?
In the past, foresters called a "husche" a slide made of logs, on which the felled logs would "slide" from the mountain slopes into the valley. The Waldhusche in Saxon Switzerland is a storytelling outdoor area where children and adults can learn all about forest management and natural processes up close.
Four interconnected themed trails connect impressive historical forestry facilities with active play elements and stations for pure enjoyment of nature. The individual themed trails have varying levels of difficulty, and some are wheelchair accessible.
In the Waldhusche you will find:
🌲 Forestry Trail (blue): In the national park, nature is largely left to its own devices. Over 75% of the area, nature is free to develop according to its own rules. In the past, incentives were given for natural development.
🌲 Historical Forest Use Trail (yellow): How did people use the forest in the past? What existential significance did the forest have for them? Be amazed by the variety of products harvested in the forest in the past.
🌲 Nature Pleasure Trail (green): Here you're not just invited to a walk with particularly attractive views; this trail is truly a path of discovery through natural beauty!
🌲 Forest Adventure Trail (red): Here, children in particular will experience many surprises – with many forest play stations!
The suggested tour shows the "Forest Adventure Trail." Be sure to plan enough time to explore the rest of the area and the Beizehaus information point. The Waldhusche is not a static exhibition, but is constantly changing – it's worth multiple visits!
By public transport: Take bus line 241 (Pirna - Hinterhermsdorf) or bus line 268 (Sebnitz - Hinterhermsdorf) to the Hinterhermsdorf Erbgericht stop.
By car: Buchenparkhalle parking lot, approximately 100 spaces, €5/day
