Hiking
This family-friendly trail explores the Gunnar Nilsson and Mickey Lammers Research Forest, named after two of the Yukon’s forestry pioneers. Just 20 minutes from Whitehorse, your hike starts on the iconic Klondike Highway and takes you into the beautiful forest with great views of the Takhini River.
You can either park at the start point or, to shorten the hike, take the forest road a little further, where you’ll find another car park. From here, follow the well-signposted forest path into the trees. The trail is part of the extensive Trans Canada Trail network.
After around 4 kilometres (2.5 mi), you’ll be greeted by gorgeous views of the turquoise-coloured Takhini River, a tributary of the mighty Yukon River, where there’s a potential detour to a viewpoint. The loop then takes you back to the car park.
