Hiking
The Walton Glen Gorge Trail in Fundy Trail Provincial Park is technically challenging and very scenic. You descend 140 metres (460 ft) into a wooded gorge and follow the course of the river to the beguiling Eye of the Needle rock formation.
From the car park, a flat forest path leads you to a viewing platform, offering an impressive vista across the entire gorge. Also visible are the Walton Glen Gorge Falls, your next objective, which you’ll reach via several steep switchbacks. Several rocky passages await as you venture along the white water that winds its way through the narrow valley. Steel chains provide additional support in the trickiest parts, but surefootedness is needed on the rock-strewn and sometimes loose terrain. Once you’ve reached the Eye of the Needle, it’s worth taking a break, as you’ll then have to regain the elevation you’ve lost thus far.
Good hiking footwear is a must and it’s best to pack an extra pair of socks too, as there’s a good chance they’ll get damp at Walton Glen Brook. In wet weather, the path into the gorge is often slippery, so we recommend only visiting the observation deck.
