Hiking
This is a beautiful loop in the Mont-Orford National Park, just east of Montréal. The 600-metre (2,000-ft) Mont Chauve is the centrepiece of the Tour, offering fantastic views of the surroundings. You can also enjoy this hike in winter, but make sure you check the conditions on the trail before you set offl.
The hike begins at the car park near Lac Stukely. The first part of the Tour follows a level path through the forest before climbing steeply towards the summit. When you reach the top you can let your eyes wander over the magnificent landscape below. The colours in autumn are fantastic, with Lake Stukely glistening amidst the trees. Mont Chauve means the bald mountain, and its barren rocky summit definitely lives up to its name. You can enjoy many more breathtaking panoramic views on the hike back down to the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for deer and many different bird species along the way.
Mont-Orford National Park is about an hour and a half’s drive from Montréal. Sherbrooke is even closer. The entrance fee is around ten Canadian dollars.
