Today we went through beautiful beech and mixed forest and high basalt walls. The highlight were the old lifting cranes.🌳🍃🍂🍁⛰🏗🗿🪨
Great 🌼👃🏼🏵1st May hike. It was so nice with you again 💚💛💚
In Ettringen, we explore the former Bellerberg volcano, now a basalt quarry. A challenging climb takes us to the top of Ettringer Bellerberg, on the western flank. A panoramic view of the East Eifel, with Mayen at our feet, is our reward. A rocky descent brings us to some fields. The path winds through the forest again, up the eastern flank, with occasional glimpses of the quarry. After the descent and crossing a road, we find ourselves among the basalt cliffs of Kottenheimer Winfeld. These former quarries owe their origins to the eruption of the Bellerberg volcano about 200,000 years ago, when three lava flows filled the valleys. A pleasant forest path remains, passing a rock monument, a spring, and a steady climb through the Segbach Valley. A beautiful end to our stay in the Eifel!
When importing this route from the GPX data of the German Hiking Institute, Komoot declares this route as 'easy'. The route is really beautiful but far from 'easy'. There are some difficult sections with significant inclines and declines. You have to be sure-footed. Otherwise, highly recommended.
Beautiful hike on one of the many dream trails around a basalt mining area. A popular spot for climbers is the Kottenheimer Winfeld section.
Our second tour for today starts and ends in Ettringen at the Hochsimmerhalle. Ettringen is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Vordereifel. We hiked the small round 4 years ago and if you are already in the area and we had good memories of the tour, we wanted to walk the dream path again. Most of the time, the tour leads through a forest, so it is highly recommended in summer temperatures. For us a beautiful, varied dream path with interesting stops and fantastic views of the volcanoes of the East Eifel. Another highlight are the "Sieben Stuben", small caves in which people sought protection during the Second World War and the Hartborn mineral spring. As a 2nd hike because of the short distance, we would hike the round again.
The volcano path, one of the most beautiful dream paths in our region. The numerous information boards provide information about volcanism and the mining of basalt, lava and slag. The deepest quarries around the Bellerberg volcano were created in the "Ettringer Lay" around 150 years ago. The mighty stone columns of its western lava flow were broken here, not without danger, in order to extract building material or paving stones, among other things. Steep mining gorges and numerous relics from the time of stone mining make the "Lay" an impressive monument to volcanology and technical history. In the former basalt lava quarry, basalt lava walls up to 40 meters high from one of the three Bellerberg lava flows can be admired. If you look from the edge of the pit onto the quarry plot with its massive basalt wall, you can imagine how deep the old valley must have been before the eruption and what huge amounts of hot lava flowed out from the edge of the Ettringer Bellerberg. Today, the region is a paradise and a challenge for climbers, including those from the Alpine Club. Below one of these climbing rocks, a wooden cross commemorates someone who lost his life in the process.
🌋 The Eifel volcano on the dream volcanic path 🌋 The rock walls of the Kottenheimer Winfeld basalt quarry are approx. 40 meters high.🧗 Its slag is the skin of the northeast-flowing lava flow that flowed from the Ettringer Bellersberg volcano over 200,000 thousand years ago.🌋 This formed the Bellerberg & the Kottenheimer Büden.⛰️ From above there are spectacular panoramic views of the Vulkaneifel.🎨🌋 🧭Mayen in Rhineland-Palatinate was a worthy successor to our previous Cuxhaven trip.🌊💙 After 🖐🏼beautiful, interesting tours with an official 64.05km🥾🥾🎒 they say ✌🏼⛰️🐐🐐 "Time to say goodbye"👋🏻👋🏻 Once again we would like to thank you Komootlers for the many likes and feedback. Thank you for your interest in us 🙋🏽♂️🙋🏻 So we say: It's beautiful, it's great - I'm jonn Bess soon 🙋🏽♂️🙋🏻 👋🏻👋🏻
