Zu Kirchen und Römern

On this relaxed bike tour you can enjoy beautiful views of the picturesque Almühltal. With its 13 kilometers, the route is well suited for a short afternoon trip or a trip with the whole family. Along the way, there are some nice highlights waiting for you, so you can extend your trip with several long breaks.

It starts at Pfofeld village square. You roll out of the tranquil place, drive past some fish ponds and continue towards Gundelshalm. Shortly before the village you turn left onto a sandy path that leads you to Obenbrunn. You will soon see the church tower of the Michaelskirche above Unterasbach in front of you. A short stop is worthwhile here: You have a very wonderful view of the upper Altmühl Valley, the Spielberg Castle and the Hesselberg. The nearest church is not far. The tower of the St. Georgskirche marks the nearby Dornhausen. In the village you can stop off at the Haas restaurant if your stomach grumbles.

Back on the saddle, you cycle a short distance until you reach the Roman fort near Theilenhofen. The foundations of the fort with the associated bathroom are still there, information boards tell you more about the history of the place. The last few kilometers to Pfofeld the path drops slightly so that you can roll to your destination in a relaxed manner. In Pfofeld, a detour to the St. Michaelskirche is worthwhile. You can see medieval frescoes inside the church.
