Simple and family-friendly circular route over the Grassauer and Rottauer Almen. Enjoy typical Bavarian snacks and goats and ponies are waiting for the little ones on the Hefteralm.
From the parking lot of the Hochplattenbahn, the forest path begins in the direction of Hochplatte. After about 1 km the path to the Hochplatte branches off to the left, we continue straight to the Rachlalm. The path first leads mainly through the forest, crosses the route of the Hochplattenbahn and shortly afterwards we reach the Grassauer Alm area, on the right the forest opens and you have a first view of the valley. Now it is not far after another gate to the first stop, the Rachlalm (open depending on the weather from the beginning / middle of May). The hiking trail continues to the right behind the Rachlalm (signs Hefteralm, Rottau, Grassau) to the Hufnaglalm. After a gate and crossing the fence, the path becomes a meadow path that leads to the Hefteralm. The Guggenbichler family will provide you with snacks such as home-made cheese, bread, cakes, Kaiserschmarrn or buttermilk from mid-May. The family also keeps goats and ponies on the mountain pasture.
Behind the popular mountain pasture, turn right past the traditional and still used bread oven through a gate with a magnificent view of Lake Chiemsee. Continue downhill through the forest to a crossroads where the Chiemseeblick viewpoint can be found. Here we keep to the right downhill towards Grassau and hike with a pleasant gradient on a wide forest path through the forest to the Strehtrumpf farm. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the moor and Lake Chiemsee again. Shortly after the house on the right please note the junction of the path! This path leads through the forest over the Zeppelinhöhe and past the fairytale adventure park back to the starting point, the Hochplattenbahn valley station.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't great today, windy... Despite everything, it was a nice round 😍 to the beautiful Hefteralm. "The one that was closed today🌝". ⛰️👍😍
Nice round on a wide forest path, initially uphill to the Raflalm - too early for a stop. Then leisurely to the Hefteralm, where we climbed up to the Frauenkaser. Beautiful view of the Kampenwand. Then it started to rain and we went into the room of the "temporary dairymaid" who was taking a break up here. Nice encounter! Without the rain, we would never have had such an intense conversation. Then we went on smaller paths and trails over the masses of fire salamanders, crawling back into the valley via the Zeppelinblick to the valley station. The heavy rain of the last 30 minutes could not spoil the beautiful day with my brother and his wife🫠
Varied, woodsy, nice alpine pasture (had a break when we passed by on another tour)
The paths are mostly rocky and also cross roots. It's very slippery and muddy, so hiking boots and poles are definitely recommended! Behind the Hefteralm, there are miniature Shetland ponies with foals. Caution is advised with dogs, as the stallion guards the herd and will attack even dogs on short leashes!
