On the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, a vast steppe landscape begins that extends into the Puszta in Hungary. In the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, you can get an impression of the vastness of the steppe and discover the salt lakes of the area with their specific fauna and flora. This circular route is accessible to everyone, including hikers with limited mobility or with strollers.

It is best to park at the National Park Information Center in Illmitz, where you can find out many interesting details about this region that is unique in Austria. The fully asphalted hiking trail leads you across the salt lakes, shallow lakes that can dry out in hot summers. The background noise of a diverse bird life accompanies you as you hike past ancient, picturesque wells, typical straw huts and small vineyards. You can enjoy wide panoramic views from several viewpoints.

Finally, you will return to Illmitz, where it is worth taking a detour to the healing spring in the center of the town. There you can also taste the region's grape juice at the end of the tour.
