Mountain biking

On this technically demanding tour to the highest peak in the Franconian Forest, the Döbraberg, you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views over the region in addition to single root trails.

The crisp mountain bike tour starts in the beautiful Schwarzenbach am Wald. After a first fast descent you will find yourself on a decent climb that takes you up to 794 meters on gravel forest paths. Hopefully you still have strength in your calves on the summit of the Döbraberg or simply use the ascent of the steel Prince Luitpold Tower as a compensatory movement. Your efforts will be rewarded with views of the Fichtel Mountains, the Thuringian Forest and the Ore Mountains.

As soon as you get back on the saddle, it goes down. In the zigzag course, you steer your bike to the Bischofsmühle, where you can enjoy hearty food and a cool beer in the middle of the forest.

It continues over hill and dale, up and down again and again. After a while, the pretty Heinersreuth Castle peeps out from between the tree tops. Since it is privately owned, you can only view it from the outside, but this more than makes up for its idyllic location in the middle of the Franconian Forest.

The narrow Köstenhof Trail takes you down to Köstenhof, rich in roots and jagged. From here you have again a few small inclines with alternating slopes on the way back to Schwarzenbach in front of you. The last piece also remains exciting.

Döbraberg

Highlight • Summit

From the 794 meter high Döbraberg you have a great view of the region. No wonder, because it is the highest peak in the Franconian Forest. If you need a bit of balancing movement for cycling, you can still climb the steps of the Prince Luitpold Tower. It's worth it, because from up here you can see the Fichtel Mountains, the Thuringian Forest, the Ore Mountains and the Coburg region.

Bischofsmühle Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

Great guesthouse in a wonderful location in the Wilden Rodach valley. But where does the name come from? In a document from 1551, Emperor Charles V allowed the rodeckers to build a cutting and grinding mill including an oil press; its first owner was the eponymous Lorentz Bischoff. When the mill was built, there were still remains of a previous building. In the thirties the Bischofsmühle was badly damaged.

May 3, 2026,Döbraberg⛰️ (Frankenwald Naturpark) - MTB Tour 7 - Fernblicke statt nur Trails – was für ’ne Runde🌳
I had this tour on my list for a while – finally ticked it off today 😄
At first, I thought the trail share would be higher, but honestly: it didn't bother me at all. Instead, there were really awesome distant views, beautiful sections, and just a mega area. Even horse-drawn carriages on the paths – somehow had a certain …

This tour was suggested to me, and since it's so close to me...just do it 😀.
The description said you'd have to push the bike every now and then 😅, which made me laugh 😬, but not anymore. It's brutally up and down...and yes, I did push 🥸.
This is truly a route for batteries.
The scenery is beautiful and …
