The popular Eaton Falls Trail is located in Willmore Wilderness Park in Alberta’s centre-west. The objective is the breathtaking Eaton Falls, which carves its way through a long and narrow rocky gorge.
You’ll start from the Sulphur Gates Staging Area at the end of Sulphur Gates Road, where there’s a car park. It’s worth taking a short detour to the viewpoint here, as the view of the Sulphur and Smoky rivers’ turquoise-blue waters is dreamy. Continue along a wide, well-maintained gravel path, boasting more views of the Smoky River. After around 3 kilometres (2 mi), you’ll arrive at Eaton Falls.
The hike is easy, suitable for the whole family. However, the gradients towards the beginning can be challenging and it can be slippery at the base of the falls. It’s also worth noting that Willmore Wilderness Park is home to grizzly and black bears.
