On this varied circular hike, you will be on the historic high trail from Bendern to Schellenberg. You will immerse yourself in the history of Liechtenstein. The entire tour runs on easy paths and quiet roads.
You start in Bendern on the Rhine, which forms the border with Switzerland here. You will climb the first hill between forest and meadows. Past the villages of Eschen and Mauren, you will reach the dreamy Neu-Schellenberg castle ruins, which offer you a nice resting place between its thick walls. There is an inn very close by if you are hungry.
Right on the border with Austria, you follow a narrow forest path to the lookout point on the Eschnerberg: you look down to Feldkirch across the river Ill to the mountains behind it. Through Hinter-Schellenberg, you continue to the Alt-Schellenberg castle ruins, which were inhabited until the 16th century. You then hike through a wonderful landscape back to the starting point.

St. George's Chapel, Hinterschellenberg

In Hinterschellenberg is one dedicated to St. George dedicated chapel. Nothing is known about their origins. However, the findings of the renovation of 1980/81 showed that the original chapel must have been built around 1700, but the building in its current form dates from around 1850/55.
Landvogt Joseph Schuppler reports on the chapel in the country description from 1815: "On the upper (rear) Schellenberg there is a small chapel, in which church services are often held from Bendern, where this place is a parish."
The Kapile - as they call their chapel - has always been of great importance to the people of Hinterschellenberg. For many years St. George has been celebrated every Thursday at 7.30 p.m. Mass celebrated.
