Hiking

On this family hike, you will discover the forest at Brotjacklriegel together with "Jackl". A funny little goblin named "Jackl" will accompany you on the Sonnenwald adventure trail. At the ten stations, hikers of all ages can experience the forest as a recreational area and as a supplier of raw materials. From the hiking car park near Langfurth, you will hike steadily through the forest on easy paths to the summit of Brotjacklriegel.

At least one active element at each station invites you to join in, along with short texts and accompanying panels that are mostly in imagery. This motivates young visitors to keep hiking and you and your family can experience the forest with all your senses. Once you have reached the summit, the observation tower offers you a fabulous panorama of the Bavarian Forest. You can also stop off at the rustic Turmstüberl before walking back to the starting point on the forest road.

Brotjacklriegel Transmitter

Highlight • Monument

The Brotjacklriegel transmitter has been on the Brotjacklriegel since 1951. It is a radio transmitter that was used a little later for broadcasting TV programs. A free-standing steel lattice tower 48 meters high was used for this until 1960. Between 1959 and 1960, today's 100 meter high reinforced concrete tower was built. Since October 2006 it has been carrying a 23 m high cylinder made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP cylinder), in which the antennas for the DVB-T are present. There is an adapter piece of 2 meters between the concrete tower and the cylinder.

The mountain (1,011 meters) is the landmark of this region. More precisely, its wooden observation tower, which houses the "Turm-Stüberl", which invites to a little refreshment. If you want to enjoy the great panorama of the Bavarian-Bohemian Border Ridge, the Passauer Land and the Danube plain as far as the Alps from the tower, there are only two obstacles: 127 steps and a "Ascension" fee of one Euro.

Brotjackl Sculpture

Highlight • Monument

Legend about the name "Brotjacklriegel":
On this mountain, which can be seen from afar, a small, bearded man, Jackl, once found shelter during the Swedish War. Without leaving his cave, Jackl always had enough bread so that he did not have to starve. One day, when Jackl was looking to see if the Swedes had already left, they discovered him. After Jackl did not reveal the secret of his constant supply of bread, they pushed him back into his cave and rolled a heavy rock in front of him. This outrage caused a clap of thunder and the Swedes were turned into boulders that still lie on the mountain today.

Since we are constantly looking at the tower from all directions, we naturally had to go up. Since it would have been very exhausting from the bottom with the pram, we drove to the forest car park and went up the Sonnenwald adventure path from there. Very nice experience stations encourage participation and puzzles.

At the hiking car park, there was a sign on the ground saying "HELL". Maybe a warning? In any case, we ignored it. The way back down was really slippery. Ice skates would have been helpful...
