This route was planned by komoot.
After spending the last two days in Frankfurt for work, I continued on to Vienna 🇦🇹 this morning – just before 4 a.m. 🕓. I still had a few business appointments between midday and early evening 💼. Nevertheless, I didn't let the end of the day stop me and – before checking into the hotel – set off on a self-planned tour 🥾🌲. I had already planned the route in advance. It was important to me to be completely out in nature 🌿 – far away from the hustle and bustle of the city 🚫🏙️. I had also deliberately planned a few meters of elevation gain, including a tough climb 💪⛰️, to prepare for the mammoth hike on Saturday 🦣. We set off around 6:15 p.m. from the paid hiking parking lot "Kuhheide" 🚗. First, the path led downhill along narrow trails through the "Forest of Eternity" 🌳, before climbing gently, then steeply, to the Höllenstein and the Naturfreundehaus 🔥🏡. Whether it was due to the strenuous days, the 30 degrees 🌡️, or simply the fact that I always get out of breath quickly on climbs – I have no idea. In any case, I was panting like an old steam engine 🚂 and had to take short breaks every now and then 😅. At the top, at 645 meters 🏔️, I was rewarded with a stunning panorama from the tower of the Naturfreundehaus 🌄. The restaurant is only open Thursday to Sunday, but I still got a cold drink 🥤 – even though the owner, who lives there, really wanted some peace and quiet. Very friendly! 🙏 The descent took me past the Höllenfelsen 🪨 and then along a moderate path back to the valley. All in all: a perfect after-work hike – exactly what I needed 🧘♂️✨. I have a few business appointments in the next few days, including tomorrow evening 📅. Therefore, my next longer hike will probably be the Mammoth March on Saturday 🚶♂️🦣. I wish you all a wonderful few days and a great time! 🌞🙌
🅿️ at Gießhübl costs min. EUR 2,-- (2 hours), then each additional hour EUR 1,-- up to max. EUR 10,-- per day. (As of: 01/25)
Cozy round from Gießhübel. Easily accessible to the public from Vienna!
Would you like some culture after sport? Heiligenkreuz Abbey (https://www.stift-heiligenkreuz.org) and Mayerling (https://www.karmel-mayerling.org) are not far away
Today's hike took me to the Höllenstein. A Wander Mult-Cache where you first have to calculate along stations. All stages were easy to find and after a break in the Höllsteinhaus we continued to the cache, which was found precisely. The Höllsteinhaus is a wonderful place to stay and rest after a hike. Not high up, but high enough for a wonderful view.
