This route was planned by komoot.
The trail is a circular route, and a good starting point with parking is often near the village of Hinzerath, which is the primary area for the trail. The official starting point is often referred to as the Entrance to Traumschleife LandZeitTour. Look for designated parking areas in or around Hinzerath.
The trail is rated as moderate and is generally considered family-friendly. However, some sections can be steep, challenging, and potentially slippery, especially in wet conditions. Sturdy hiking boots are strongly recommended for everyone, including children. It's a varied route that offers a good experience for those with a basic level of fitness.
You'll experience a diverse landscape, predominantly winding through open fields and meadows with expansive views. The path itself includes footpaths, plank paths, and wooden bridges, particularly through areas like the spring moor. Be prepared for some potentially steep or challenging sections, especially if it has been raining.
The trail offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural highlights. Key attractions include the historic Baldenau Castle Ruins, which even served as a film set. You'll also pass through the beautiful Arnika Loop within the spring moor of the upper Dhrontal valley, and encounter various artistic sculptures and informative boards.
The trail is enjoyable in most seasons. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery with blooming flowers or vibrant fall foliage. Summer is also great, especially for enjoying the open landscapes. Be mindful that some sections can be slippery in wet or winter conditions, so always check the weather forecast before you go.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, it's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas with livestock, wildlife, or near other hikers. Ensure you carry enough water for your dog and clean up after them to preserve the natural environment for everyone.
No, there are typically no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Dream loop LandZeitTour or to access the general areas of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. However, always respect local regulations, stay on marked paths, and leave no trace to help preserve the natural beauty of the region.
Yes, the route is part of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig Traumschleifen LandZeitTour, which covers 100% of the trail. It also briefly overlaps with sections of the Hunsrück-Radweg and the Nahe-Hunsrück-Mosel Radweg (Hunsrückabschnitt).
Given the trail's moderate difficulty and varied terrain, sturdy hiking boots are essential. We also recommend bringing sufficient water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and rain gear, as weather can change. A small first-aid kit and a fully charged phone are also good to have.
The trail is located near the village of Hinzerath. While the trail itself doesn't have facilities, you can find cafes, restaurants, and accommodation options in Hinzerath or nearby towns in the Hunsrück region. It's a good idea to check opening hours in advance, especially if hiking during off-peak seasons.
On average, hikers can expect to complete the 8.4 km (5.2 miles) loop in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. This duration can vary depending on your pace, the number of stops you make to enjoy the views or explore highlights, and the weather conditions.
Hiking weekend with Gabi. I'll take Gabi's description: Day 3: "Land-Zeit-Tour" also a varied beautiful tour, with wooden sculptures and stories about life in the Hunsrück over time. The Baldenau castle ruins are beautifully situated. Since it was only a short tour, we added the "Oil Mill Tour" afterwards.
Dream loop LandZeit Tour, Baldenau Castle Morbach
Today there was a day tour of the hiking friends Saarland to Morbach. At 9 a.m. the Land Zeit Tour started at the castle ruins in Baldenau. Right at the beginning we strayed from the tour over the bridge with the mailbox for the "Post für Hermann". So just a little bit back. 🤷🏻♀️ A very nice, varied tour that is quite easy to walk. After the hike we went to the Brieschmühle for a lunch break.

Relaxed, cozy round in great surroundings. No difficult paths and hardly any meters in altitude, therefore also suitable for families, but you should still wear sturdy shoes. Not "suitable for prams", as there are stones, roots etc. on some sections. Top maintained and great signposted tour. Recommended!
Short, but really nice round starting at the picturesque moated castle Baldenau near Morbach in the Hunsrück. https://www.saar-hunsrueck-steig.de/traumschleifen/landzeittour
After the first hike, we drove to the former Baldenau moated castle for lunch. The dream loop "Landzeittour" started right at this castle ruin. It mostly led through open countryside over meadows and field paths around the village of Hinzerath. Highlights were the former Baldenau moated castle and the Arnika loop through the spring moor in the upper Dhron valley. The dream loop took second place in the "Tours" category in the vote for "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail 2017".
