This route was planned by komoot.
The trail is easily accessible near Kastellaun. While specific parking details aren't provided, it's common for premium hiking trails like this to have designated parking areas at or near the trailhead. We recommend checking local signage upon arrival.
Yes, this trail is considered easy and is ideal for beginners, families, and those looking for a relaxed stroll. It features no significant ascents and is suitable for all fitness levels, requiring no special endurance or sure-footedness.
The trail primarily winds through varied forest landscapes, including light beech forests with old trees, mixed woodlands, and a birch grove. You'll traverse narrow forest paths and old postal routes, encountering small streams and ponds. Fixed footwear is recommended due to the natural forest paths.
You'll discover several scenic spots, including a picturesque Water Lily Pond with a Picnic Meadow. There's also an observation point offering expansive views over the Hunsrück region into the Soonwald. "Sinnenbanken" (sensory benches) are placed at various points, inviting you to pause and enjoy the views, potentially even spotting the Idarkopf on clear days.
Yes, the trail incorporates several interesting elements. You'll pass an old Jewish cemetery and sections of a former Roman road. Towards the end, the "Kyrill" storm-damaged forest experience path provides insight into the effects of a severe storm from 2007 and nature's resilience. There's also a "Waldklassenzimmer" (forest classroom) and a climate change educational trail.
While the trail is generally accessible, specific regulations for dogs are not detailed. As a general rule for trails in nature parks, dogs are usually welcome but should be kept on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers. Please be mindful of local signage.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round. However, spring offers lush greenery and blooming flora, while autumn provides vibrant fall colors. Summer is pleasant for forest walks, and winter can offer a serene, snow-covered landscape, though conditions may vary. Always check local weather before you go.
No, there are typically no permits or entrance fees required to hike the Burgstadt-Pfad dream loop or to access the general areas of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. However, please respect the park's regulations, such as staying on marked paths and not disturbing wildlife.
Yes, the Burgstadt-Pfad dream loop is part of the extensive Saar-Hunsrück-Steig network. The route also passes through sections of the Traumschleife Burgstadt-Pfad, Schinderhannespfad, and Bruchschneise, among others.
The trail features amenities like benches, including the "Sinnenbanken," for resting. While the trail itself doesn't mention specific restrooms or cafes directly on the path, the nearby town of Kastellaun would offer various amenities, including cafes, pubs, and accommodations. You'll also find a Forest Playground Hunsrück along the route.
Given its easy difficulty, you'll want comfortable clothing suitable for the weather. Fixed footwear is recommended due to the natural forest paths. Bringing water and snacks is always a good idea, especially if you plan to utilize the picnic meadow. A camera would also be great for capturing the scenic views.
What could be nicer on a sunny late summer morning than a relaxed walk through the forest - not much, anyway!🌲🌄🌳🙃 The Burgstadtpfad is perfect for this with its high proportion of forest and almost no elevation gain. Another highlight is the beautiful water lily pond as a place to linger.🌸🤩 I don't understand why barrier tape was put up on the Kyrillpfad, I ignored it in true Christian fashion and that was a good thing.😉 I often thought about you @deliabtzt & @Christitan and our Schinderhannespfad tour along the way.😘
After the morning tour, which was a bit strenuous in the heat, and cooling off with an iced coffee, I went for a short evening walk. The "Burgstadtpfad" starts not far from my hotel in Kastellaun. The family-friendly tour, which mostly runs on beautiful forest paths and trails, passes all kinds of lovingly designed stations that either invite you to an "adventure", such as the climbing ropes course, or to rest and enjoy, such as the water lily pond in the middle of the forest. Today in the evening a very relaxed and entertaining tour. 🙂👍🏻 At the end of the tour you can do another round on the "Kyrillpfad" storm throwing adventure trail. My second TS of the day!! And another excellent choice!! Lots of forest, and the rest with fantastic views!! The route is also very well signposted, making it impossible to get lost!! The route is packed with information, making it very entertaining!! Also great for children, as there's so much to discover!! The people who designed the trail really put a lot of thought into it!! Everything was very well maintained!! 🥰🤗🙋🏼♀️
What an experience for the soul! After we first had an ice cream in Kastellaun while the last rain was coming down, we started with "here and there a rain droplet". The path mainly goes away from the wide paths and at first you have the feeling that you are going through the same place in the forest in a meandering manner, on narrow paths that are, however, very well maintained. (Only heaven can do something for mud) On the way you get a lot on offer and is surprised that the signs say 1, 2 or 3 km on the way. (First?) The path is not a bit strenuous and to describe it with the noun that comes to mind - green! A lot of forest and you automatically get the term fairytale forest in your head. The water lily pond is the icing on the cake. The Kyrill path is an experience when you climb over the numerous bridges and footbridges. There is also a climbing path in the trees along the way which looks very interesting. In the heat of the day, you can definitely cool off on this tour.
The very short dream loop Burgstadt-Pfad with the promising number 100 was the second for today's International Women's Day. From Koblenz it can be reached with the bus line 620 in a whopping 1.5 hours journey 🫣 well, with a length of less than 8km it wouldn't have been worth it to me. So I got on the bus 620 at the end of the dream loop Oberes Baybachtal (number 104) that I had just hiked and drove another 24 minutes to Kastellaun/Burgstadt Hotel, from where I reached the portal after about 300m. It's a good idea if you're somehow nearby. This dream loop has almost no elevation gain at all and in my opinion is more designed for families with small children who should get to know nature here and have their first contact with it. The path is lovingly designed, there are red signs all along the way that tell you what you are looking at or what you are walking past. You "walk" through the so-called "Pentecost Forest", pass the "Look into the Tree" section, where you can take a look inside the various trees, until you reach the "Green Classroom". You reach the "Jewish Cemetery", then walk on wide paths through the "Spring Area" and finally reach part of the "Roman Road". Here and there are various information boards that provide you with information about the sections mentioned. From the "Soonwaldblick" you have a fantastic view of the landscape and a little later, after various paths, you reach the "Picnic Meadow", which is then replaced by the "Water Lily Pond". Wide paths finally lead to the "Forest Playground", closely followed by the "Landreitgraben", through which you then walk a few hundred meters until you finally reach the "Forest Adventure Park". The climbing park here seems to be freely accessible to me. You pass an unused "herb spiral" and then reach the Kastellaun climate change educational trail. From here on it gets "wilder". A large proportion of the trees that fell victim to the storm Kyrill were deliberately left lying there to give nature the chance to recover in a completely natural way. The whole thing is also explained on various information boards. In places the paths are so swampy that you have to walk over tree disks that make a smacking noise with every step. At the end of the climate change educational trail there is a wooden frame for photos, and a device for selfies for single hikers has also been thought of 📸 From there it is a few hundred meters back to the start of the dream loop and after another 300m I reach the Burgstadt Hotel bus stop, from where 2 minutes later (yes, that was a very close call) I take bus number 620 WITHOUT changing in 1.5 hours back to Koblenz 🤣 I have to be honest, for number 100 I would have expected... well, somehow a bit MORE. The tour was quite nice. It was informative, but with almost no challenge. Maybe the Middle Rhine has spoiled me for the shallow walks of this world 🫣
Today, after 3 years, we went on this lovely, relaxed tour with few meters of elevation and easy paths and trails. It's sure to be exciting for children because of the barefoot path and the forest playground. The water lily pond in the middle of the forest is very idyllic, there is a bench there and a picnic area right next to it. We skipped the "Kyrill path" today. After a few meters, we realized that the heavy rain in the last few days had turned the path into a swamp. Stomping through the mud ankle-deep was impossible for my better half with her knee injury, so we skipped that section today. But we liked it anyway. 👍
Very nice path for people who feel comfortable and can behave in the forest. The paths and paths are pleasant to walk and very well signposted. Kudos to the people who created and maintain this path, thank you!
This morning I had to wait until the sun finally came up to be able to do this little loop 😄 Despite the many highlights, this is ultimately an unspectacular but beautiful loop. The highlights were sought out by the path management rather than found or, if necessary, new ones were built 😄 For me, the real highlight is that you are almost exclusively on natural paths and avoid the wide main paths as much as possible 👍 The beautifully designed highlight boards round off the whole thing accordingly and at the end there is the really interesting Kyrill path.
