The most common starting point for this circular route is the town hall in Obertrubach, where parking is typically available. You can also join the trail at any point along its path if you find alternative parking in one of the nearby villages like Wolfsberg or Hundsdorf.
Yes, the Trubachweg is generally dog-friendly. However, please keep your dog on a leash, especially when passing through villages, near livestock, or in areas with wildlife. Be mindful that some sections can be narrow or steep, and paths may be muddy after rain.
The Trubachweg is beautiful year-round, but spring and summer are particularly vibrant with wildflowers in the meadows and lush forests. Autumn offers stunning fall foliage. While possible in winter, be aware that paths can be slippery or muddy, especially in unpaved sections, so appropriate footwear is essential.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Trubachweg. It is located within the Naturpark Fränkische Schweiz – Frankenjura, which is freely accessible to the public. Please respect local regulations and leave no trace.
The trail offers a diverse mix of terrain, including narrow paved roads, gravel paths, and natural forest trails. You'll encounter both uphill and downhill sections, with some parts being steep, such as the ascent from Wolfsberg towards Dörfles. Sure-footedness is recommended, especially after rain when paths can become muddy.
The Trubachweg is rich in natural and cultural highlights. You'll pass by the beautiful Trubach Spring, unique rock formations like the Klagemauer Rock Formation, and the charming Trubach Wooden Bridge and Stream. The trail also features 18 information boards detailing the region's geology, culture, and climbing history.
Yes, the Trubachweg is part of a network of trails in Franconian Switzerland. It shares sections with other official routes such as the Fränkische Schweiz 5-Tage-Wanderung, Frankenweg Teil 4, and the Trubachtalweg, offering opportunities for longer or alternative explorations.
Yes, the trail passes through several charming villages like Obertrubach, Wolfsberg, and Hundsdorf, where you can find local cafes and pubs to refresh yourself. The Climbing Information Center Obertrubach is also a good spot to check for local amenities.
Given the moderate difficulty and varied terrain, sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support are highly recommended. Dress in layers suitable for changing weather conditions, and bring water, snacks, and a small first-aid kit. Trekking poles can be helpful for steeper sections or after rain.
Absolutely! The trail offers several wonderful viewpoints with panoramic vistas of the Trubach valley and the surrounding Franconian Switzerland landscape. Keep an eye out for spots like the Signalstein, which is ideal for taking a break and enjoying the scenery.
Yes, the Trubachweg is designed as a circular route, meaning you will end up back at your starting point without needing to retrace your steps. This makes it convenient for hikers starting from Obertrubach or any other point along the loop.
A wonderful, varied winter hike through the snow-covered Trubach Valley. The advantage: you get there early and can easily find a parking space before the road through the village is closed at 4 p.m. Warm up with a punch in the village shop and then enjoy this beautiful traditional "festival of lights".
We set off in beautiful weather... From Wolfsberg, the trail initially only goes in one direction: uphill! 😉 A short break at the Signalstein rock formation with a magnificent view of the surrounding area. Afterwards, it was a steady descent back down to the Trubach Valley. A quick coffee break in Untertrubach, and then, in the last light of day (a flashlight was definitely needed), back to the car in Wolfsberg.
I set off under cloudy skies 🌥️ and in perfect hiking weather in Obertrubach, immediately heading uphill along a root-filled forest path to Herzogwind with its beautiful bell tower 🔔. From here, I follow a meadow path and through the forest to the outskirts of Hundsdorf, where I can observe all kinds of four-legged friends 🐐🫏. The alpacas, goats, donkeys, and the like belong to the Friedrichshof animal enclosure. I leave Hundsdorf through the cozy village and past the small chapel ⛪️, encountering numerous moths 🦋 and butterflies on the meadow paths, which impress me with their colorful wings and flutter around me, putting me in a good mood 😎. Reaching the shady forest, my path continues to the Wailing Wall and the Signal Stone 🪨, the top of which can be reached via a steep staircase. The view is unfortunately not impressive, but the Signalstein itself and the rock formations around it are definitely worth a closer look. During a rest, I can observe some climbers 🧗♂️ scaling the Signalstein in their own unique way. From the Signalstein, the path descends towards the Wolfsberg Castle ruins 🐺, from where you have a beautiful view of the Trubach Valley. Stairs lead down into the village, and on the way out, I walk along the Trubach River. The water 💦 is crystal clear and ice-cold, inviting you to take a Kneipp therapy. I cross a bridge to the main road and walk left along a small path past the Reichelsmühle and Ziegelmühle mills towards Obertrubach. Above the Schlöttermühle, I marvel at the massive rocks and shortly after, pass the Hackermühle. At the entrance to Obertrubach, past the climbing information center and the Kneipp facility, the trail continues to the goat enclosure, where not only goats but also chickens 🐔 romp and scramble over the rocks. The trail continues through the village back to the parking lot and home.
This is a hiking route we did based on online recommendations. You just have to follow the butterflies. 😉 You can also find a very nice description of the hiking route online if you'd rather be less digital. In the end, we took a shortcut and left the butterfly route.
Start at the town hall in Obertrubach. With the yellow cross to the signal stone. The ascent over the metal stairs is worthwhile. With the red dot past the castle ruins. This time we looked at it from below, but again the climb seems worthwhile (will be noted for another day). Follow the red dot to Wolfsberg and then back to Obertrubach with the blue dash. This time a wonderful winter hike through the remaining snow. Certainly also because of the beautiful distant views beautiful in every season. Partly gravel, partly asphalt, partly forest floor. The trail was a bit slippery this time due to snow and melt, so a good workout for the leg muscles. Otherwise rather broader, easy to commit paths. Due to ups and downs, this route is not suitable for people with restricted walking. For nature lovers. Past beautiful rock formations in the forest and along the paths. Some of it is popular climbing area. If you are sensitive to the sun, take protection with you. The route always contains shady sections, especially at the viewpoints and on some sections of the route it is rather open terrain. I liked it. Will be on the "I'd love to come back" list. A very special thanks to the Gasthof am Signalstein. While all other restaurants were closing, we were received here in the afternoon, cooked for and ended the day with a very good meal. Plants: rose hips, sloes, blackberries. Animals: horses, goats, chickens, ducks, small birds. Found in Kompass hiking guide Franconian Switzerland No.29.
A perfect day in Obertrubach! 🥰🥰🥰 We started with a hike on the circuit through Obertrubach. The route was impressive - the mystical atmosphere at the Wailing Wall and the historic Wolfsberg castle ruins were real highlights👍. The nature all around is simply fantastic.🫠 In the evening, the Festival of Lights🔥 in Obertrubach was on the program🌟🌟🌟. The illuminated installations, the romantic atmosphere and the lovingly designed details were an unforgettable end to our day. DREAMY ❤️
