On this beautiful loop, you will explore the lush green Pioneers Park near Lincoln, where you have a good chance of seeing a herd of bison in the prairie and forests. The park was named in honor of the pioneers, whose confidence formed the basis of the entire early West.
The tour starts at a parking lot on the eastern edge of the park. The impressive Pinewood Bowl Theater is just a few steps away. Since 1947, a wide variety of outdoor events have been held here, surrounded by greenery. From here, you walk on towards Fleming Woods, where the Haines Branch Salt Creek babbles along leisurely.
Along the Harrington Trail Loop, you will pass through idyllic wetlands and over to the tall grass prairie of the Pioneer Park Nature Center. The nature center is open daily and offers exciting exhibitions in several buildings. In addition to a wildlife sanctuary, awareness of the natural history of Nebraska and the Great Plains is raised here. From here, you walk almost two kilometers through the park back to the parking lot.
