Through the Wolfsklamm

Heaven and hell: through the deep Wolfsklamm you climb up to the pilgrimage church of St. Georgenberg, which sits magically on a boulder. The way back through the diverse beech forests of the nature park also offers a panoramic view of the Inn Valley. The thundering waterfalls in the middle of the rock walls in the Wolfsklamm impressively show us how the water has hollowed out into the rock over the millennia. According to legend, the location of St. Georgenberg was shown to the hermit Rathold von Aibling by birds. He built a chapel there as early as the middle of the 10th century, and a monastery soon developed. Today's pilgrimage church dates from 1735. Here you can stop at the inn and enjoy the view before heading back to Stans. In the forest above the gorge, which we pass on the way back, there is a lot of dead wood and that is why numerous woodpeckers and other animal species live here - which we can discover with a little patience and binoculars Author tip In the gorge, look out for small black-brown birds with white breasts that hiss over the river like arrows: they are the dipper, which hunts for insects underwater! The altitude is correct 😂 It's a shame that you can only go up the Wolfsklamm. The forest path back was 80% shady, however, and worth its weight in gold in today's temperatures. The entrance fee to the gorge is justified, lots of new viewing areas and almost all of the walls have ropes. Great for walking or climbing the stairs 😉

Today the Wolfsklamm in Stans im Inntal was our goal and it was overwhelming. The adventurous hike leads over steps, climbs and rocky gorges along impressive waterfalls. A great hike with wonderful impressions. At the end of the gorge you come to an idyllic stream bed where many stone figures were built. Then we hiked up to the monastery with the inn St. Georgenberg, the oldest place of pilgrimage in Tyrol.

The Wolfsklamm is incredibly great and impressive. And when you are at the top, you should definitely continue to Georgenberg Monastery, which hovers over the valley like an eagle's nest. On the way there is the Hohe Brücke, which is also an absolute highlight. To the great surprise, a taxi overtook us there.

Since it was already quite warm this morning, we decided to walk through the Wolfsklamm Gorge. Then we'll do a short Stations of the Cross to the Georgenberg Monastery. Return via Weng. And then we'll take a dip in Lake Achensee 🏊‍♀️

Dogs are generally allowed, but you should be very sure what the dog can do. For small dogs, it is definitely only possible at times if you can carry them, as some of the boards on the walkways have wide gaps. The stairs are also very steep and vary in height. You can only get out of the gorge through a turnstile, which was a real challenge for our dog's size, as he had to go through it alone.

Great discovery, really great this route, beautiful waterfalls. Wear good walking shoes in places it is slippery with the water dripping on the boards and stones.

Today we went to the Wolfsklamm near Stans. Already at 10:00... all parking spaces were taken... right by the church there was still space and even free 😁 Let's go... €6 per adult, €2 for children up to 14... justified for the effort that has to be made, I think. The first few meters go up the gravel path to the entrance to the gorge. There the path alternates with bridges and wooden walkways and it goes uphill well. An impressive experience of the forces of nature. Once we got to the top we went to the Benedictine monastery of St. Georgenberg. There is a nice restaurant attached to it where you can stop for a bite to eat. On the way home we took the Fichtweg towards the valley, which ends via the toboggan run at the outdoor pool in Stans. From there it is only a few meters to the parking lot by the church. PS: Sturdy shoes are a must, but it is very rocky and slippery at times. I won't say anything about the age of the children... everything up to infants was there 🫣
