Hiking

Lunar Landscape is an arid area, almost without vegetation, on the southern slope of the Teide caldera. Here only small shrubs and plants grow between rocks and on wide scree. From the mountain village of Vilaflor, a circular walk takes you through pine forests to the edge of this unique landscape.

As you ascend you enjoy wonderful views of the southern coast of Tenerife. The route winds uphill and the landscape becomes more arid until only a few trees grow on the rocky slopes.

From the viewing points of the Lunar Landscape you have a particularly beautiful view of the strange rocks and the steep cliff of the caldera. Remember to enjoy the surroundings from the Mirador de los Escurriales avoiding stepping on the lunar landscape.

The return path takes you back to Vilaflor. Soon more trees will grow along the path as you walk downhill. You continue through the sparse forest and arrive at Vilaflor, the destination of your hike.

May 17, 2023, 🇪🇦 - Teneriffa :: Wanderung zum Paisaje Lunar 17.05.2023

While clouds dominate on the coast, the hope was that the sun would have the upper hand at the top of the Corona Forestal. For a long time there was a desire to hike the lunar landscape of Paisaje Lunar. 😃 If not today, then when. Already in Vilaflor the sun slowly broke the cloud cover at 14°C. The first meters are always the most difficult, that was really true today. The first kilometer was quite steep uphill over many stones. 😩 Luckily, after reaching an abandoned finca, the path flattened out a bit. Now, to my delight, the first diamond buglosses appeared. 🥰🥰 The path meanders further and further up the mountain with a beautiful view. At the highest point, it was still 600m down to the first vantage point. A fantastic view. 😃 The rock formations reminded me of the Pinnacles on Crater Lake. In summary, it was a very beautiful, but also strenuous hike. But I would definitely do them again. 😁

A hike at 28 degrees and blazing sun to Paisaje Lunar. The tour begins in Vilaflor and initially leads uphill on a rocky path through the pine forest to the junction of the circular path that leads to the bizarre rocky landscape of Paisaje Lunar. Paisaje Lunar, translated from Spanish, means lunar landscape. It is a peculiar rock formation of volcanic origin and the result of erosion that presents impossible shapes and colors reminiscent of the lunar surface. Its whitish color contrasts with the darkness of the surrounding rock and the canary pine that rises in its surroundings. The way back led through lava landscape and large fields of blooming gorse.

We were on the road from Vilaflor, we started at about 1300m difference in altitude, the streets in the village are quite narrow, so we parked on the main road. The entire path consists mainly of slabs of slate, not always on a plan. Uphill it was challenging, but it was worth it. But the way back over the uneven path was very exhausting, we were pretty exhausted in the end. But in the end we were proud of ourselves.

80% in the sun, in our opinion, not worth it. The "fairytale moon landscape" can only be properly viewed if you leave the official paths. If you still want to do the circular route, you should skip the first 2 km (Camino Chasna) and coming from the TF 21 from Vilaflor, at KM 66, turn left, turn right onto the sand track (good path) and drive to the climb (road fork).

leaving Los Cristianos at 11am on the 482 and arrive in Vilaflor at 12. We wanted a hike but had to on the 16.20 bus back. this hike fitted in perfectly with a few minutes spare to wonder around the beautifully landscaped square. Thanks again to Komoot
