This route was planned by komoot.
Slowly we had to think about our way back and since the weather in Dovrefjell didn't promise to get any better either, we left our cozy hut with a heavy heart and turned to vagabond life again😉. After a look at the weather map, we headed back towards Sweden to Fulufjället National Park, which was too far off the beaten path on our outward journey. It was Saturday and the parking lot was already full when we arrived. Luckily, most visitors just flocked to the Njupeskär waterfall, one of Sweden's highest at 93m, with a free fall of 70m. We also took a look at it, but in view of the crowds of visitors we immediately left again. A steep, sweaty path leads to the oldest tree in the world and we were almost alone on the road. The 9,550-year-old spruce examined by Swedish scientists consists of 4 generations, showing ages of 375, 5,660, 9,000 and 9,550 years. If you imagine a huge tree underneath, you will be surprised 🤔. We make the big loop and pass the huts of Rösjöstugorna. Then it goes steeply downhill over rocks and later over created steps. The colors of nature were overwhelming again and it was difficult for me to choose the pictures.
Beautiful hike with two superlatives: the highest waterfall in Sweden and the oldest tree in the world. Super nice weather 😊
Tour to the oldest spruce in the world. She's been over 9,000 years old, the good one.
We couldn't resist and had to drive to Fulufjällets National Park once again, after September last year when the park shone in the most beautiful autumn colors. We start our round again at Naturum, but first choose the steep ascent to Rösjöstugorna hut, but make a small detour via Jaktfalksleden. Here we already have to cross the first snowfields. We had actually expected a cold wind, but to our delight there was a gentle breeze. A few ptarmigans did indeed flutter across our path up in the mountains, and Lutz patiently allowed us to take pictures of them. The detour to the oldest tree "Old Tjikko" in the world, estimated 9,550 years, was skipped this time. The descent to the waterfall, at 93m one of the highest in Sweden, turned out to be a bit exciting for me. Again it went over a snow field, which fell off quite steeply and at the thought I could slip.....😱. As it was quite late, we had Njupeskär all to ourselves. However, the wind came from the wrong side and we were gently showered😉. Below were the birches in the soft spring green, above you could only see the buds. For us one of the most beautiful national parks, which we will certainly not have visited for the last time. And now that we're so close to the border, we went straight to Norway🇳🇴 🥰.
Very nice round in the national park. The highest waterfall "Njupeskär" and the oldest clone tree "Old Tjikko" can be seen there!
