This route was planned by komoot.
The route is a loop around Ringkøbing Fjord, so you can start from various points. Ringkøbing town is a popular starting location, offering parking facilities. You can also begin from other towns or villages along the fjord, depending on your preference.
The route offers a varied terrain. Approximately 54% of the path is paved, while 46% consists of unpaved sections. While generally relatively flat, there are some gentle inclines, with a maximum gradient of 7.7% and a total elevation gain of around 295 meters over 90.1 kilometers. It's largely manageable for touring cyclists.
Komoot estimates the cycling duration for the entire 93.9 km route to be around 6 hours and 17 minutes. However, this is a continuous cycling time. Most touring cyclists will want to allow a full day, or even two, to enjoy the scenery, stop at points of interest, and take breaks.
You'll be immersed in the magnificent nature of the West Coast, with the scent of the sea, fjord, heather, and pine. The route passes through vast heath areas with minimal traffic. Notable landmarks include the Lyngvig lighthouse and various holiday homes. You'll also pass by the Dune Cycle Path (Vestkystruten), Ringkøbing Harbor, and the Ringkøbing Fjord Bike Path.
Generally, dogs are welcome on cycling paths in Denmark, especially if kept on a leash. However, as parts of the route pass through natural areas like the Ringkøbing Fjord Vildtreservat, it's always best to keep your dog under control to protect wildlife and respect other users. Always clean up after your pet.
The warmer months, from late spring to early autumn (May to September), are generally the best time to cycle the route. During this period, you can expect milder weather, longer daylight hours, and the full beauty of the coastal and fjord landscapes. The scent of rose hips, sea buckthorn, and blueberries is particularly noticeable in late summer.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle the Fjorden Rundt – Cycling route 760. The route is publicly accessible, and the Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality has invested in improving the cycling infrastructure for visitors.
While there are no specific fees for cycling through the Ringkøbing Fjord Vildtreservat, it is a protected wildlife area. Cyclists are expected to stay on marked paths, respect wildlife, and avoid disturbing birds, especially during breeding seasons. Keep noise to a minimum and leave no trace.
Yes, the Fjorden Rundt – Cycling route 760 intersects with several other official trails. Notably, it covers a significant portion of the 'Fjorden Rundt' trail (73%) and also includes sections of the 'Vestkystruten' (39%) and 'Danmark på tværs' (27%). You'll also find smaller overlaps with paths like 'Hvide Sande til Nymindegab' and 'Drivvejen'.
Yes, as the route passes through several towns and villages around Ringkøbing Fjord, you will find various amenities. Ringkøbing itself offers a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and accommodation. Other smaller towns along the way will also have options for refreshments and places to stay, especially during the peak season.
Many parts of the route are on well-laid out cycle paths and are relatively flat, making them suitable for families. However, some sections are unpaved, and the full 93.9 km distance might be challenging for very young children. Consider breaking the route into shorter, more manageable sections if cycling with kids, or choose the paved parts for a smoother ride.
Given the varied terrain and coastal exposure, it's wise to pack layers of clothing, including waterproofs, even in summer. Bring a repair kit for your bike, plenty of water, snacks, sun protection, and a map or GPS device. Binoculars can enhance your wildlife viewing experience, and don't forget your camera to capture the stunning fjord and West Coast scenery.
Today we circumnavigated Ringkøbing Fjord in perfect weather. 🚴♀️🚴♂️
After what feels like an eternity, we are once again on the road in Denmark (apart from the Grenzweg 4 years ago), although it is almost on our doorstep. Before that, we have many fond memories of cycling in Denmark, but with children back then. Lakes or, in this case, fjords that can be circumnavigated are always ideal for tours. So this time we wanted to circumnavigate Ringkøbing Fjord. The starting point was the east side of the fjord and then continued clockwise. The east side is less interesting but good bike paths. It's really nice from the south-east of the fjord (from Skjern Au, where you have to cross with two hand-operated ferries), then the entire west until just after Ringkøbing. Interestingly, we didn't see much of the fjord, which was due to the fact that we drove through the wonderful dune landscape in the west, which rarely gives a clear view of the fjord. The paths are also great here (mostly fine and coarse gravel). In the high season it will probably be very crowded here and sensible travel will hardly be possible. The round is absolutely recommendable, you should pay attention to the wind directions in advance in order to drive the route in the opposite direction if necessary. As well as the fact that the tour is probably only partially fun when the holiday homes and the region are very full.
How I got to minus 60 meters is still a mystery to me.
Super varied day tour. As a round trip, you can start anywhere. On the north and east side there are long sections directly on the water, on the west side there is a lot of dune scenery. Very beautiful. In total around 20 km on cycle paths along the country road, rather tough. Pay attention to the wind strength and direction.
Super varied route. Any start, here at Camping Lyngvig Strand. The route is signposted throughout (#760). Two/three longer sections are to be driven on the country road, otherwise many sections are directly on the water, especially on the east side. Here is also a special highlight: self-service mini-ferry. On the west side it goes primarily through the heath, with a view of the dunes. Very nice. Lots of places to rest.
A top-notch tour, always beautiful, and there's always something new to discover. Fully signposted, there's little that can go wrong. The only critical factor is usually the weather; you should especially keep an eye on the wind before setting off. Plan for various rest stops, and allow for some time...
So...this morning it was time...the fjord tour 🎣🇩🇰🌊😊🧐.., in the morning behind the dune landscape it was still quite fresh.......from Hvide Sande towards Søndervig Then it got warmer pretty quickly and the clothes had to be changed......Ringkøbing..... Break with pizza and the tastiest soft ice cream in the world.....it's just like that......carry on Towards Stauning..... now there is a headwind and your neck is slowly swelling 😉 Wind from the front Wind from the side and the planet from above is burning 🥴🌞👹👺.....continue to Bork Havn..... Very nice tour this time in a different direction and driven completely around the Ringkøbing Fjord. Wonderful weather and only little wind 10km/h. Route from Borkhavn to Skjern close to the fjord. Very nice section of the route also from Ringkøbing via Bagges Dæmning.
