What is the best time of year to hike this trail?

The trail offers a diverse and rugged landscape, known for its 'jylhä luonto' (rugged nature) and impressive lake views. You'll encounter dramatic rock formations and splendid viewpoints, particularly from Loukkuvuori and Kalajanvuori, offering panoramic vistas of the national park. The route also passes along the beautiful shores of Lake Konnevesi and the crystal-clear waters of Vuori-Kalaja pond. Keep an eye out for ospreys, the national park's namesake bird. Trail Reviews

Romy von Etappen-Wandern
September 12, 2024, Nationalpark Süd-Konnevesi: Dschungel auf Finnisch

How exciting can a forest be? After today I know: very, very exciting. This challenging route through the South Konnevesi National Park has fundamentally changed my image of a real jungle. OK, there are no parrots flying around here, but I have never seen such a wild and spectacular forest in Europe. The forest here is constantly changing its face: sometimes everything is covered in moss, then lichens of very different shapes decorate the ground, then I walk over rock slabs, later thick blueberries hang on small bushes and then I arrive at the water again. In between there are steep inclines and slippery slopes. The paths are adventurous. The path hardly ever leads straight ahead. Sometimes I balance on wooden walkways, sometimes I hop from stone to stone, then again I slalom around trees and boulders and in between I catch a wide view of forests and lakes. The challenging forest paths really shouldn't be underestimated. And neither should the temptations along the way. I'm just saying mushrooms and blueberries! But be careful: in nature reserves in Finland, the right of public access does not apply as usual. You are not allowed to pick flowers here. But you are allowed to collect berries and mushrooms. Camping and making fires are also allowed near the trekking sites. There are always signs at the entrance to the parks saying what is and isn't allowed. And that's usually quite a lot!
