Hiking
This circular hike, starting from Egloffstein, takes you through the idyllic Trubach Valley. You'll see the castle towering on the mountain before you, and a steep climb takes you up to the top. The Barons of Egloffstein once lived here; today, you can visit the ancestral castle on a guided tour.
You continue hiking over the Zaunsbacher Berg and soon come very close to the Hundshaupten Wildlife Park. A short detour is worthwhile for wildlife observation and a break.
The route curves and leads you gently downhill into the Trubach Valley. The path winds along the water until you return to the starting point in Egloffstein.

This route was planned by komoot.
A relatively easy route to walk. I would recommend it in spring, summer or autumn though. The weather wasn't very inviting today.
Since it was drizzly in the morning, we didn't start until midday. The hike led along both sides of the Trubach Valley. Of course, there are some steep sections that require proper footwear and surefootedness. But the view from the Pfarrfelsen and Balkenstein are worth the effort. Egloffstein Castle is privately owned by the von und zu Egloffstein family, who also live there, and can only be visited by prior arrangement. The Frauenhöhle (Women's Cave) can be explored with a flashlight. Cell phone light isn't sufficient. The path at the Felsentor (rock gate) on the Wilhelmstein to the Frauenhöhle (Women's Cave) is currently closed. But there is an alternative route above via Kulturweg 1. Actual elevation gain of 499 meters.
Parking is available at the trailhead, subject to availability. In Mostviel, we recommend the Schlossblick restaurant (private parking).
