From above, the bay looks like it's in the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the algae make bathing less enjoyable down below.

Brufjell Caves

Highlight • Cave

The Brufjell Holes were likely carved out of the rock by the surf before the coastline rose after the last Ice Age. A rare natural phenomenon!

From the Brufjell summit, you can descend to Brufjellhålene. The path is very steep and exposed. Steel steps and steel cables have been installed for climbing the steepest sections (a short via ferrata without safety equipment). Nevertheless, this section is dangerous, especially in wet conditions and with improper footwear! Dogs cannot negotiate this route.

Don't be too tempted by the cave photos; some visitors are disappointed because the caves are smaller than they appear in the photos. The real attraction are the eroded rock formations directly above the surf.

Wow, what a tour, it seems so inconspicuous, a bit up the mountain... and down to the sea 🌊, but not like that in Norway. There was a brief rain at the beginning and then the sun came out 🌞 and a strong wind 🌬 I would describe the route as alpine and then the descent to the cave, that was a via ferrata in the waterfall where you had to find your own way in some places and the slippery rocks, a bit of a challenge. But we were alone down there by the sea, why only🤣🤣 The climb up was surprisingly quick and the altitude to the summit was quickly achieved. It was a gigantic view up there😃

You don't really know what to say. A hike like this is new to us. With mountains for free climbing, amazing views, normal paths and finally a via ferrata that was quite something. It's just a great feeling to have mastered it and to top it all off, to admire the whims of nature. These impressions are simply unbelievable...😍👍🏻😃❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

In fantastic weather we went up to the Brufjell today. 🌞⛰️ We still have to adapt a bit, so that the routes marked in Norway have a different level of difficulty than we are used to and therefore require significantly longer time for the routes than planned. Unfortunately, the marking was missing in some places along the way. Thanks to Komoot, however, we didn't stray too far. 😊 The paths were demanding and it was allowed to scramble again today. 💪🏼😅 Arriving at the top of Brufjell, we had a great view of the coast, the huge rocks and the North Sea. 🌊😍 We didn't dismount to the "potholes". The wire-rope-insured places into nowhere + the iron steps weren't for us after all. So we continued on the rock formations - past the beach, which was in a great bay 🏞😊 and on to the "Oddan" lighthouse, where we again enjoyed the view over the sea before returning to the starting point. We were also able to sign the summit book today > at Brufjell and at Oddan. A great round. 🤩👍🏼

This hiking to the caves called; “Brufjellhalene” is the first highlight for us in Norway. Total 5.5 km 2 hours is not in everyone’s capability… Needs about 100 meter climbing… down and up! At the end, it is absolutely worth to do this hiking. In the evening we are in this little harbour where one has to be in fjord feeling. I had a talk with a Norwegian lady who kindly took our fotos in the cave, children start taking English lessons in Norway already in the kindergarten! Everyone we meet here, in the shops, at the street can talk well English and they are so helpful. Today was the first sunny day since we arrived in Norway, but not sunny days were also good. Finally, we feel happy that we are in Norway❤️❤️❤️

On the second day of our Norway trip, we set ourselves the goal of climbing the 180 m high Brufjell. ⛰️🏁 The starting point was a parking lot just outside. From there you first cross the picturesque villages of Østebo and Stornes before you get to the actual starting point of the hiking routes. The route is basically designed as a circular hike. There are easy (marked blue 🟦) and more demanding sections (marked red 🟥). The path is consistently marked with colored markers and even provided with signs and overview maps at crossing points. 🗾 Basically, the paths are very natural and therefore adventurous. We initially decided on the moderate variant for the ascent, which definitely requires sure-footedness!☝️😅 Later we turned onto the red route. Over hill and dale, past tame mountain goats🐐, accompanied by an idyllic backdrop and even some climbing, you reach the summit. From here you have a breathtaking view of the Norwegian cliffs. 🌊 In a small mailbox 📪 is the mountain booklet, in which of course "Teamleuteberg" has also immortalized itself. 😉 Before reaching the summit, there is still the option of descending to washed-out sea caves, the Brufjellhållene. However, this path is only marked for experts (marked in black◼️), because with the appropriate equipment you climb down the cliffs pretty much vertically. 🧗 All in all, a really nice and recommendable hiking destination! ☺️

Beautiful, challenging tour with secured climbing sections. A head for heights is a must. Gardening gloves are an advantage for the rope sections. Some parts are very busy, so progress can be slow.

Great tour with via ferrata piece. In total, however, you can calculate 4-5 hours, including photos and climbing. So plan your time. You can park for free in 2 parking spaces, where there is also a hiking map and 2 drinking machines :-) Our chosen way there was already very sporty with high wet stones and scrambling. If you like it a little more relaxed, you should prefer our way back through the forest. Then, below the summit, you come to the start of the black route, the path to the caves by the sea. You have to climb down to the level where the caves are located using metal stairs, chains and rubble. A sporty section, sure-footedness and a head for heights are required in any case. However, the path is more spectacular than the 4 small caves themselves 🤷‍♀️

I have put the photos of Helleren at the beginning of the tour. The settlement site, which dates back to the Stone Age, is located in the Jøssingfjord, is worth seeing and is only a few kilometers from the tour.
