Cycling

This moderate day tour takes you through the extensive landscape of the Börde for almost 64 kilometers. The start and end points are in Schönebeck, south of Magdeburg, which is also easy to reach by train from there. If the route is a bit too long for you, you can cleverly shorten it between the towns of Wespen and Kleinmühlingen. This saves you roughly 15 kilometers.

The tour starts on the outskirts of Schönebeck directly on the Elbe. You roughly follow its course eastwards through wide landscapes. Since there is hardly anything blocking your view, you can make out the more than 4,000-year-old cult site of the Pömmelte ring sanctuary from afar. The short detour from the cycle path to the south is worth it to see the "Little Stonehenge" near Magdeburg.

The route takes you to the Elbe once again and you pass through the towns of Glinde and Pömmelte before you have earned a refreshing break at the Barby lake park. Back from Barby, the route goes west through the gem of Wespen and then through the small lake landscape north of Calbe. Here you can decide whether you want to take a shortcut to Kleinmühlingen or do the long circuit via Calbe.

In Kleinmühlingen, it is worth visiting the Peace Tour Museum, which is dedicated to cycling in general and the former stage race "Course de la Paix" in particular. Then it goes back to your starting point via Großmühlingen and Eickendorf.

Back in Schönebeck, we recommend that you stop at the Solepark. At the historic graduation tower, you can finally take a deep breath or try out one of the many other relaxing spa facilities. Your tour ends a little later, where it began - on the Elbe. Here you can end the day in style at the Weltrad Café.

Pömmelte Ring Sanctuary

Highlight • Historical Site

On the site of the cult or sacrificial site there is an observation tower that allows you to overlook the ring sanctuary from above. It is nice to see the individual circles of the wooden palisades from this angle.

There is the opportunity to have a drink in the visitor center (note opening times).

2 covered rest areas are available outside and are freely accessible regardless of opening times

In 1802, Germany's first brine spa was opened here. The graduation house was built between 1756 and 1765. It has a total length of 1,837 meters. This makes it the largest graduation tower ever built.
