ATTENTION: Trail Nr. 53,721 to Karteisalm is closed from 21.09. due to logging work.
Trails Nr. 52 from Hallmoosalm parking lot to Glettenalm and Nr. 54 to the Draugsteinalmen are accessible without restriction.

The largest mountain lake in the Eastern Alps awaits you! Although there are some meters of altitude to overcome on the way there, the effort pays off: sparkling, crystal-clear water, dreamlike views of the lake and the surrounding mountains await you – and a hearty snack in two rustic alpine huts to finish.

The hike leads from the parking lot at Hallmoosalm first through shady forest and then over the mountain meadows of the unmanaged Karteisalm. At Karteistörl, an impressive view of the Tappenkarsee opens up, down to which you then descend. The shore path runs gently along the meadows directly on the lake and invites you to enjoy this natural jewel in peace. If hunger strikes here, the Tappenkarseehütte offers a first stop.

Afterwards, it's a sporty climb up to the Draugsteintörl, where another great view awaits you. From here, a last look back at the lake is worthwhile before you hike down through a species-rich landscape with rare plants and flowers that thrive particularly well on the calcareous soil. Finally, you reach the Draugsteinalmen, where two alpine huts serve homemade delicacies. Well-fortified and full of impressions, you easily cover the last meters back to the parking lot.
