This route was planned by komoot.
Härön island is accessible via a short, five-minute ferry ride from the old fishing village of Kyrkesund. You'll find parking available in Kyrkesund for your vehicle before boarding the ferry.
The trail offers a diverse experience, ranging from asphalt and gravel roads to hilly paths and wooden boardwalks in wetter areas. You'll encounter rocky landscapes, some steep climbs, and sections winding through a nature reserve.
You'll enjoy fantastic and varied scenery, including expansive sea views and vistas towards Tjörn and Skärhamn. From higher points, on clear days, you might even spot Carlsten's Fortress on Marstrand and the Trubadur and Pater Noster lighthouses. Don't miss the View of the Bohuslän Archipelago, the Marvellous moorland, and the unique Wooden walkways.
Yes, parts of the trail are very accessible. Paths starting from the ferry landing, especially those leading north to Rösseberget or south to Holmudden along asphalt roads, are easy and suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Other sections, however, involve steep climbs and varied terrain, making them less suitable.
The trail passes through Häröns Naturreservat. While dogs are generally welcome, they must be kept on a leash at all times to protect the local flora and fauna, especially during nesting seasons.
No, there are no entrance fees or permits required to hike within Häröns Naturreservat. It is freely accessible to the public.
The trail is enjoyable in many seasons. Spring and summer offer vibrant flora, with poppies and other specific plants in bloom around Änga. Autumn provides beautiful colors, and even winter can be scenic, though conditions may vary. Always check the weather before you go.
Yes, you'll find a picnic area with a wind shelter and barbecue facilities at the old farm at Änga, which is a great spot for a break. Additionally, Magasinet Härön, a restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the bay, is located on the more populated eastern side of the island.
Yes, the longer circular loop on Härön is part of the Kuststigen Coastal Path. A small section of the route also follows Sankt Olovs väg.
On the highest point in the south of the island, there's a unique cairn topped with a heart. It's a local tradition for visitors to attach a padlock to it and throw away the key as a symbol of eternal love.
After a somewhat longer and very entertaining breakfast with Gerda, we set off in perfect hiking weather from the old fishing village of Kyrkesund, taking the cute little ferry across the narrow strait to Härön in 5 minutes. The card payment didn't work, so the captain simply transported us for free 🙏. We walk through the small town and are amazed by the new development that follows. Extravagant villas are being built here, available for purchase through Sotherbys, and are likely to be occupied by the owners for a maximum of 2-4 weeks per year, as a local resident suspects. Today we can also enjoy the sunshine and surprisingly dry paths that initially lead us through beautiful green valleys, a heathland, and a moorland. For some time, we follow the Kuststigen road again, which soon becomes rockier again and delights us with the fascinating landscape. The expansive view over the bays and the unique archipelago is always there, and we can't get enough of it! We climb and descend over the rocks, and the wooden walkways and steps are helpful here and there. It's pure hiking pleasure and a feast for the eyes! At a particularly beautiful spot, we take our backpack-picnic break and absorb these wonderful moments we're able to experience together. Our friendly captain had plenty of time to entertain us with interesting stories and information during and after the crossing. Then, unfortunately, it's time to say "hejdå." The archipelago of the Bohuslän region in western Sweden is considered one of the ten most beautiful natural areas in the world, according to CNN. And rightly so, we find it absolutely paradisiacal and magically beautiful! Simply a fantastic gift of nature that we enjoyed so much with every meter and moment!
https://www.vastsverige.com/sodrabohuslan/leder/vandra-haron/ The tour could also be mastered well by the four-year-old with a little help here and there. Please think of mosquito and sun protection! In Kyrkesund, use the on-site parking lot (in the direction of Badeplatz) (free of charge), buy tickets for the ferry on site or with the Västtrafik to Go app.
A beautiful hike, but if possible take waterproof shoes with you, as most of the route is over damp and wet meadows and paths. Be careful, you also pass free-roaming cows 🐄. 😅☀️
Because it is wet in places, it is highly recommended to protect yourself against mosquitoes.
A very beautiful circular hike leads through the nature reserve of the island of Härön. You can reach the island with a 5-minute ferry ride from Kyrkesund. The hiking trail is very well marked and leads over hill and dale, over footbridges, stairs and paths across the island. The path is easy to walk, there are no technical difficulties. A little surefootedness is helpful in a few places. The path also leads across pastures, so please always close the gates and adapt your behavior. Ferry tickets can be purchased either via the Västtrafik app or directly on board.
