The main loop around Stora Delsjön, which is approximately 10.3 km, can generally be completed in about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Your actual time may vary depending on your pace and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
The trail offers a diverse landscape, winding through forest and bog areas. You'll encounter a mix of gravel paths, traditional forested trails, and wooden boardwalks, especially when crossing parts of the lakes. The scenery features stunning views of clear waters reflecting pine trees and lush greenery.
Yes, the main loop around Stora Delsjön is generally considered easy and is well-suited for beginners and families. The trails are well-marked and cater to various skill levels. While most of the route is leisurely, some areas, like towards Mount Håberget, offer steeper inclines for those seeking more challenge.
Absolutely! The trail offers several interesting features. You can visit the Horsesjön Beach, cross the impressive Stora Delsjön Pontoon Bridge, and enjoy the scenic Forest trail along Stora Delsjön. The area is also known for its beautiful views of the lake and surrounding nature.
The trail is easily accessible from Gothenburg by public transport, making it a convenient escape into nature. If you're driving, there are also parking lots available near the reserve's access points.
Yes, for a portion of the route, the trail follows the Bohusleden - Etapp 2 Stensjön - Skatås, a well-known long-distance hiking trail through southwestern Sweden. You'll also find sections of Turiststråket, Lilla Torps Hage, and Norra Sjöslingan intersecting or running alongside the main path.
Stora Delsjön is beautiful year-round, but the spring and autumn months offer particularly pleasant hiking conditions with vibrant foliage or blooming nature. Summer is popular for combining hiking with swimming, while winter can offer a serene, snowy landscape, though conditions may require appropriate gear.
Yes, dogs are generally welcome in the Delsjö nature reserve. However, as it is a nature reserve, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times to protect wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
No, there are no entrance fees or permits required to access the Delsjö nature reserve or hike the Stora Delsjön trail. It is freely accessible to the public, allowing everyone to enjoy its natural beauty.
The Delsjö nature reserve is known for its rich bird life, so keep an eye out for various bird species. While larger mammals are more elusive, you might spot smaller forest animals. The area is a peaceful urban wilderness, offering a chance to connect with nature.
The area is a popular recreational hub, so you'll find amenities like picnic areas. While specific restaurants directly on the trail are limited, there are often cafes and facilities at the main access points or nearby in Gothenburg. The Delsjö lakes also serve as Gothenburg's public drinking water source, so maintaining cleanliness is important.
Very nice hike with lots of rest areas and benches! Some steps on the way before and after the long bridge over the lake.
Stretch your legs on the way to the ferry from Gothenburg. The Delsjön Nature Reserve is a beautiful recreational area near Gothenburg with long hiking trails, swimming spots, and the opportunity to rent canoes.
Our last trip took us through Gothenburg to Stora Delsjön, a lake surrounded by forest, rocks and moorland. The noise from the motorway was a little disturbing. The paths were very easy to walk. There were a few stairs, though.
How quickly you get spoiled by a few hikes, especially yesterday's?! Today's was very nice in itself, but not as great as the ones mentioned. But it doesn't always have to be higher, faster and further. A walk around a lake is also very nice, even if the path is a hiking highway. You can then walk well and don't have to be careful not to stumble, trip or slip. In contrast to ours at home, the lake shore was again dotted with rocks. There were also many islands in the lake that are romantic to look at and typical of the Swedish landscape. There was also some moorland, which I always find wonderfully mystical. Ultimately, this walk was also beautiful and varied. The sign saying that diving is prohibited here comforted me. My daughter and I actually wanted to dive in the Kattegat or one of the larger lakes. The nearest diving center where we could have rented equipment is quite far away. And with my cold subsiding, I'm not sure whether I'll be able to equalize the pressure.
