Hohenzollernhaus Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The cozy, original Hohenzollernhaus is located 2,123 meters high above the remote Radurscheltal. Surrounded by ancient pine trees, you can enjoy Tyrolean specialties here. The menu is small but fine. You can stay overnight in rooms and dormitories.

Trail Reviews

Mario Schmidt
June 24, 2025, 🇦🇹 Hohenzollernhaus + Smaragdsee über Radurschlalm - Runde vom Parkplatz Wildmoos

Our tour started at the Wildmoos hiking car park. The first few kilometers are on a gravel road, the access path to the Radurschlalm. You can stop here for a bite to eat or on the way back. In any case, you shouldn't miss this somewhat remote but beautifully situated alpine pasture! This is also where the most beautiful part of the tour begins. Our ascent took place, on the recommendation of a local, via the Waterfall Trail. Since this trail is very steep, the descent is difficult. Highlights of the tour include the Hohenzollernhaus and the Emerald Lake. You can also stay overnight at the Hohenzollernhaus with a reservation. The descent took place via the "Summer Trail," which ends directly at the Radurschlalm. There is no cell reception for the entire tour, which apparently drained my phone's battery. In any case, I couldn't record the last kilometer of the tour due to a lack of power. But it was just the unspectacular gravel path anyway.

We really wanted to see the Emerald Lake, it hasn't been there for long (not even on any signpost) and you don't know how long it will be there. The approach was adventurous, 9 km on a gravel road. We had read that you can drive on the forest road to the parking lot, but the signs actually said something else. After some back and forth we dared and in the end there was a large parking lot and a few other cars. The hiking trail was first a gravel road for another four kilometers, then finally a nice hiking trail. The emerald lake was really awesome, such incredible colors depending on the sunlight. Before the descent we stopped at the Hohenzollernhaus, which was also very nice. The rain shower on the way home couldn't spoil this beautiful day...

a day later the lake was destroyed by a mudslide

A wonderful hike up to the Hohenzollern Hut at 2123m. We started at the Wildmoos car park with fantastic hiking weather and a great backdrop. Our way led us along the Raturschltal, dressed by the Raturschlbach and individual waterfalls. Simply impressive, especially where the flora and fauna are still so untouched. I hope the pictures convey what I mean a little. Absolutely worth a hike, which is rewarded with a great view and a meal at the Hohenzollern House at the end and who still invests a good quarter of an hour comes to the old customs station on the Raturschlsee with deep blue water. I can only recommend this tour and I wish everyone a lot of fun
