If you came to Tenerife to make the most of your days on the bike, this route is ideal. The nearly 2,500 meters of elevation gain in just over 100 kilometers, in addition to the unforgettable landscapes you'll discover, will surely take you all day.
The adventure begins at sea level, in a parking lot in Costa Adeje, and ascends to the base of the colossal Teide while passing through the island's typical landscapes and villages. The ascent is gentle but sustained for many kilometers.
It's important to bring supplies, both food and hydration, as well as mechanics, since there are no shops between Chío and Vilaflor de Chasna.
Of course, from the forested crown, crossing the Teide ravines and returning to the majestic pine forest, the views will take your breath away. Perhaps it's the altitude too, since the highest point of the day reaches 2,200 meters.
Remember to also bring sunscreen. Radiation at high altitudes, and throughout the day, is usually high. Also, bring some light outerwear for higher altitudes, where temperatures tend to drop.
A fun and winding descent awaits you from Vilaflor de Chasna, with extraordinary views of the ocean.

Almost a bit much for the first day...after weeks of just running...my neck doesn't like that at first...😏..but the clouds were hanging at about 1200 m and it was gray and drizzling...at the top Pure sun and 26* degrees...that was the right decision 🙏
Back in the saddle for the first time - since December ... and after an infection - but on the coast it's cloudy again and above ☀️.. then there's no alternative 😎🥴..
What a tour. 50 kilometers uphill... mercilessly. But there is a moderate incline between 4% and 6% throughout. The curves through Los Cristianos are a bit annoying and the main road along the coast line is not romantic, but from Chio, where you really get into the driveway, it gets really nice. At some point the trees thin out and you drive through bizarre lava boulder fields. You always have the Teide in view, as well as La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. In Vilaflor you can recharge your batteries as a reward. The descent is fantastic!!! The asphalt, the gradient and the curves are just perfect.
