Alpine Hiking Trek Segnespass

Hiking

Your high-alpine hike begins at the Nagens Sura cable car station. You can reach it from the valley station in Flims, where there is a bus stop and parking. Along the Tschingelhörner, an impressive chain of mountain peaks, you hike through the unique moorland landscape of the Segnesböden.

Along well-maintained mountain paths, the high-altitude trail offers spectacular views of the barren terrain. Reaching the highest point, you reach the Segnes Pass, where you can also find a small refreshment stop. On the way down, you cross vast plains characterized by alpine moorland. Once you reach your destination, a rest at the popular Segnes Hut is recommended. From here, you can either take the cable car back down to the valley or, if you have enough time and energy, hike back down to the valley.

Please note: Access can lead over snowfields until midsummer. The last 50 meters of elevation gain are via steep steps with chains and metal bars.

UNESCO World Natural Heritage TektonikArena Sardona

Highlight • Natural Monument

Segnesböden, low moor and moor landscape – even if you are regularly on the upper or lower Segnesboden, you will have a different view every time. This is because the streams on the two high plateaus constantly change their course. New lakes appear and disappear again. Parts of the lower Segnesboden are also designated as a low moor and moor landscape of national importance. The original mountain valley north of the Segneshütte filled up with the scree brought by the mountain streams. This created the extremely valuable natural landscape.

Segnespass Mountain Lodge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Segnespass Mountain Lodge is an old military accommodation that is now run as a private hut in the summer. It has 10 sleeping places, which should be reserved in advance, as the hut is located at 2,627 meters.

There is a composting toilet at the hut; logically, there are no shower facilities at this altitude. The hut team will cook you a vegetarian menu here, and drinks are also available.

Further information about this rustic but unique hut can be found here: segnespass.ch.

The Segnesböden are part of the TektonikArena Sardona UNESCO World Natural Heritage and are special in many ways: the streams that run across the two high plateaus regularly change their course. Lakes repeatedly emerge and disappear, and some parts are immersed in a magical moorland landscape. A magnificent natural landscape that looks a little different from every angle and with every visit.

A super nice tour in the UNESCO Tectonic Arena Sarena - thanks to the Swiss blogger Sabrina Bigler👍. One of the many highlights is the view from the Mountain Lodge on the Segnes Pass.
