It's so prominent in the city's name, yet the Düssel River rarely takes center stage. This tour is different. You'll explore the river's entire course and explore the city's entire course.
You'll start on the banks of the Rhine in the Old Town—more precisely, at one of the estuaries of the Southern Düssel. You'll quickly leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and cycle through some of Düsseldorf's parks: from the Volksgarten to the Südpark to the Schlosspark Eller.
You'll have the Düssel River almost constantly by your side. Of course, the lively Düsseltal district is particularly important on this tour. You can't get more Düssel than this. The final section of the tour takes you through the Hofgarten and back to the Rhine. There you'll end up at the estuary of the Northern Düssel.

The wonderfully warm autumn evenings are probably numbered, so make sure you make the most of every one! This green cycle route is one of my favorite routes, it runs mostly away from roads and connects lots of green secret paths. In fact, this themed cycle route "On the trail of the Düssel" follows the widely branched tributaries of this river that gave Düsseldorf its name. Wherever you see water flowing to the left or right of the path: it is the Düssel. Further information for reading: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCssel In Vennhausen, the Düssel is currently being further "de-straightened" or renaturalized so that it can meander in curves again like it used to. There are currently construction sites there that are closed to the cycle path (so you have to briefly detour onto the residential streets to the left and right). At the very end you end up back at Burgplatz or down by the casemates at the KD boat dock. There, the northern Düssel flows underground into the Rhine and above ground it has at least been given a paving marking and a large-format information plaque (see photo). If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the old town for a leisurely end to the day and would rather enjoy the sunset over Oberkassel in peace, we recommend the Tonhalle terrace with its numerous deck chairs and lounge music... the best view!
In mid-November one would expect cold, wet cemetery weather, but not as beautifully mild and golden days as we are now. This round is one of my favorite routes and connects a lot of green routes with each other. It runs to >90% away from motor roads. Whenever you see a watercourse to the left or right of the path, it is a tributary of the Düssel: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCssel This is how many green parks you cross in total: Feldmühlepark, Hofgarten, Ostpark, Schlosspark Eller, Volkspark. Here is the whole tour from Dusseldorf-Altstadt Burgplatz: https://www.komoot.de/tour/540653155
One of my favorite circuits, especially on such a beautiful, sunny spring Sunday: This circuit takes you around the city center along all possible side arms of the Düssel. Whenever you see water to the left or right of the path, it is the Düssel. The tour is 95% off-road and combines many green and secluded sections into a nice big round.
One of my (after-work) favorite laps around the city of Düsseldorf runs along a lot of hidden and partly completely unknown green sections along the Düssel. The various tributaries of the Düssel are widely ramified throughout the city and are often secluded and secluded (sometimes also underground). Whenever you see water to the right or left: it is always the side arms of the Düssel. The entire route is easy to drive, only a few hundred meters of it are a bit bumpy dirt road, where a trekking or mountain bike is an advantage. Otherwise you can ride the entire route with any normal bike. The start and end was the Düsseldorf castle tower on Burgplatz (old town on the banks of the Rhine). Have fun exploring these remote Düsseldorf regions and have a golden autumn! :) If you want to find out more about the Düssel before the start, you can read here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCssel Course of the Düssel in the urban area: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCssel#/media/Datei:D%C3%BCssel.png

At halftime there was also a nice reunion after a long time with long-standing friends, who spoiled us with coffee and cake according to all the rules of the art. Today, finally, a sunny bike ride with my esteemed colleague Olli – a wonderful tour for two! This is one of my favorite routes around Düsseldorf. It starts and ends at Burgplatz in the Old Town on the Rhine. The route connects many green and car-free sections, and whenever you see water to your right or left, it's always the Düssel River. Here you can see how extensive the network of the northern and southern Düssel is around and through Düsseldorf: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCssel A particularly beautiful highlight is Eller Palace Park and the palace itself! My new KOGA bike proved its worth and was a lot of fun: https://www.koga.com/de/fahrrader/city-und-trekking/f3-8-0-my25.htm
We go in search of clues about the crimes of the Nazi tyranny from 1933 to 1945; Length: about 25 km; after ⅔ of the route picnic break in the south park. Detailed description s. http://www.geschichtswerkstatt-duesseldorf.de/archiv/Stolpersteine.rtf
