Düsseldorf in all its facets: This circular tour takes you around the entire city. Kilometer after kilometer, you'll discover different neighborhoods and landscapes – from the vibrant hustle and bustle of the Old Town to the expansive forests and nature reserves on the outskirts. And of course, one must-see – the Rhine.

You begin your grand Düsseldorf tour at Burgplatz, where the castle tower rises and the Rhine is already at your side. First, you'll head to the Media Harbor and then continue cycling south until you reach Benrath. Now you'll say goodbye to the Rhine for now, but don't worry, there are more waterways on the agenda. For example, you can make a wonderful stop at Unterbacher See.

The next part of the tour will be accompanied by extensive forests – you'll pass sections of the City Forest, the Wildlife Park, and the Aaper Forest. Meanwhile, you'll be heading north. Angermund is Düsseldorf's northernmost district. There, you can visit the castle park of Heltorf Castle on the weekend.

You'll soon have the Rhine at your side again, for example in historic Kaiserswerth with its imposing Imperial Palace. You'll then cross the Rhine by ferry and cycle back toward the city center on the left bank. With a view of the Düsseldorf skyline, you'll cross the Oberkassel Bridge – the final section will take you back to the starting point.

Nice wide views of the Düsseldorf Medienhafen, the old town and over to Oberkassel and Neuss. Architectural highlights are the Gehry buildings.

From the Benrather Schlossufer it is not far to the Urdenbacher Kämpe, where you can explore a few beautiful paths comfortably and away from traffic. The Stümpeweg in particular leads along the Urdenbacher Altrhein in the direction of Baumberger Aue. A great route that also offers a little variety. However, watch out for pedestrians and the route is a little uneven.

Heltorf Castle

Highlight • Castle

Heltorf was first mentioned in the 11th century as the Helethorpe farm in the Kaiserswerth Abbey's register of rents.
Early owners were the Lords of Heldorp. Otto von Heldorp is already mentioned as the owner of Heltorf Castle in 1167.

Kaiserswerth Imperial Palace

Highlight • Historical Site

Directly on the banks of the Rhine rise the picturesque ruins of the Imperial Palace of the legendary Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. The palace, originally dating back to the 10th century, was expanded under Emperor Henry III and later by Emperor Barbarossa after he relocated the Rhine toll from the Netherlands to Kaiserswerth, as he needed a fortress dominating the Rhine.

The location for the palace was well chosen. Because the Rhine forms a gentle curve here, it can be clearly seen over a long stretch. Even today, the castle complex consists of imposing walls up to four and a half meters thick. The idyllic castle path offers a magnificent view of the palace.

Düsseldorf Castle Tower

Highlight • Monument

The castle tower is also a maritime museum - very interesting. There is a café on the top floor, from where you have a gigantic view over the Rhine and all the way to the Media Harbour.

Wouldn't I have expected that I'd be able to cover the 100km after a short while on the bike again. But with a few more stops it worked out great.
Had the idea for the tour for a long time and also designed some, until I found the D10 from Radschlag and implemented it today.
Personally, I found the routing …

Arrival to Hilden Süd with S7 and S1.
Half of the route was unknown to me, but it is highly recommended. The area around the Grafenberg with its trotting track and lots of forest is very beautiful.
Until a few transfer pieces there were always streets with little traffic or suburban settlements.
I was able to do all of this …
