If you enjoy long, steady uphill rides, you'll love this tour. You start right at the Hoče train station, on the edge of the Drava Valley, and climb almost 1,000 meters to Areh – through dense coniferous forests, on quiet asphalt, and with minimal traffic.
The ascent follows a well-maintained road with a steady climb – so it's best to get into the rhythm and push on. Along the way, shade, fresh forest air, and occasional views of the valley provide extra motivation.
Up in Areh, several mountain huts, such as the Ruška koča or the Hotel Areh, await you for refreshments. You can either continue on to the Pohorje Plateau or return by bus. Incidentally, the route is also a training destination for many Slovenian locals because of its magnificent scenery and pleasantly cool even in summer.
