Today again committed the Kyffhäuserweg and collected all 10 touring stamps. In the best hiking weather, however, there are hardly any hikers on the route. Except for the points where it smells like fries 🍟 and bratwurst. But that's fine with us. At least we have our peace. The path is definitely a recommendation. With its more than 1000 Hm but nothing for beginners. It is not for nothing that it is also intended for three stages. But there are so many hiking trails here, there is something for everyone.
The circular route in the Kyffhäuser Mountains in northern Thuringia is really great and deserves its status 🪙 - mainly paths and paths through forest and fields, little asphalt and totally varied in terms of fauna and landscape 🤩... The weather was suitable with a fresh breeze, a short shower and subsequent sunshine Due to lack of time, I only touched on the sights on the way today - I've already visited the Barbarossa cave, Reichsburg Kyffhausen with monument and panorama museum and they are really recommendable! At the Königspfalz Tilleda I looked over the fence for the first time today -> also looks very interesting and will be done soon. The picture of Barbarossa at the monument is from an earlier visit, but had to be included here - with many greetings to a certain Komootler.. 🙋♀️ PS: Between Bad Frankenhausen and Rottleben, 2 passages are officially closed due to the risk of tree breakage - there are also diversions for that...😅

All the highlights of the small mountains combined on one round. From the "Leaning Tower" in Bad Frankenhausen to the Barbarossa cave, the former television tower on the Kulpenberg, the Kyfhäuser monument, the Kaiserpfalz Tilleda to the elephant toilet, everything is there.
Even though I've walked this beautiful round several times, I haven't managed to do it in spring yet. In addition to the already numerous highlights, such as the crooked church in Bad Frankenhausen, the Barbarossa cave, the Geopark Kyffhäuser, the Kyffhäuser monument, the Tilleda imperial palace, the elephant toilet with variety garden and the slaughter mountain, there is something very special to marvel at. In the area north of the small mountain range around the monument and Tilleda there are around 50,000 fruit trees. This leads to the current flowering period not only for the eager humming and buzzing of the bees but also for a rain of blossoms reminiscent of a snowstorm in winter if there is a little wind. But the rest of nature also made every effort to draw attention to itself with bright colors. If you only want to walk this path once, you should do so at this time of the year.
The Kyffhäuser Mountains in Thuringia are one of Germany's smallest low mountain ranges, yet they are not lacking in natural and cultural beauty. Mediterranean karst landscapes and deserted beech forests, the Royal Palace in Tilleda, and the Kyffhäuser Memorial in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm are just four of the many special features that make the Kyffhäuser Trail a quality trail in "Hiking in Germany." With a bit of fitness, the 37 kilometers can be comfortably hiked in three days. The start and finish of the circular trail is the spa town of Bad Frankenhausen. The first stage leads through a bizarre gypsum karst landscape to the legendary Barbarossa Cave. The destination of the second stage is the Kyffhäuser Memorial. The trail there leads hikers through shady beech forests and past traces of Stone Age settlements in the village of Steinthaleben. A separate forest adventure trail leads behind the Rothenburg ruins along the steep mountain edge. The third and final stage, at just under 16 kilometers, is the longest, returning to the starting point of the Kyffhäuser Trail. After a short hike through blooming orchards, hikers are transported directly to the Middle Ages. The Imperial Palace awaits in Tilleda, before continuing through the Kyffhäuser Forest to the Rock Garden GeoPath, home to rocks dating back five million years. A special way to get to know the region has been offered for some time now by the Kyffhäuser Audio Experience, which accompanies hikers on the Kyffhäuser Trail. At various stations, you'll find a phone number that you can call from your cell phone to hear a short story from the Kyffhäuser Mountains. After the announcement, listeners simply press the correct station number to find out whether stones can smell and what the story of the Tilleda Princess is all about.
