Cerkniško jezero (Cerknicka Lake) Magnificent nature, you can observe many birds - beautiful🙌. We actually wanted to go SUP paddling, but since there isn't enough water, we went hiking 🥾. Parking is free during the week! It is the largest lake in Slovenia and a periodic lake. This means it doesn't have water all year round, but it does regularly. Also known as a seepage lake, the water disappears into holes and caves on the lake's bottom and shores during the summer months. The lake is filled by rainwater and several rivers. Depending on the water level, Cerknicka Lake is the largest and also the smallest lake in Slovenia. It is also the largest lake of its kind in Europe. When the area is dry, the meadows are used as fields and are home to a rich fauna. In winter, the lake freezes over and is a popular place for ice skating.
