This route was planned by komoot.
Lowest point = -10 meters. The Netherlands are amazing. And a pleasant change from the Alpine passes.
It was time to head to the seaside again, but unfortunately, the weather hasn't been ideal lately. And then the weather forecasters finally had a change of heart and flipped the switch for a bit more sunshine. So, a spontaneous tour planned the night before was immediately put into action. The bike path through the dunes is highly recommended, and the weather was perfect; a truly wonderful Sunday.
Today we set off for Scheveningen in sunshine. There were so many new impressions. When we arrived in Scheveningen we were appalled at the architectural sins on the beach. We have been to the Carlton Beach Hotel several times, at the end of the boulevard and behind it only a nature reserve. Now there are only food stalls that take up half the beach and you can no longer see the sea or the beach from the boulevard. Almost all of the shops are empty. Really bad. Only the Kurhaus is really worth a visit. We were able to admire an art exhibition there. It was perfect 🤣 it started to rain heavily. My senior citizen's mobile home was plugged into the power supply, otherwise I would not have been able to get back 🤷♀️🤣 We enjoyed a delicious soup in the Carlton and then we drove back through the dunes to Katwijk. The protected dune landscape is simply fantastic. When we arrived in Katwijk we had to have dinner at Zee & Sun. 👌 It was a great day. Good thing I had so much rain gear with me.👍🙋♀️
First it went up and down through the dunes. Then through the nature park to Wassenaar, a small inconspicuous town with tw. big old mansions and the theme park. The way back on the main road was safe and easy to drive on, but not a scenic highlight
Arrival day of my short trip to Noordwijk. Start at the hotel, a short trip to the beach, then on to Katwijk and then via the magnificent dune cycle path towards Scheveningen and The Hague with sightseeing. I found both cities very impressive 🤩 On the way back, we went through the dunes again on a parallel path and then via the Landgoedroute past magnificent houses via Katwijk back to Noordwijk. I am still totally flashed by the variety and beauty of the impressions, simply fantastic 🔝
From Noordwijk, we cycled to The Hague. The city's green line runs past the Huis ten Bosch palace all the way to the city center, stretching endlessly and beautifully. The return journey to Katwijk led through the wonderful dune landscape—you just cycle and enjoy!
From Leiden through the dunes; A seaworthy greeting to the North Sea after two decades... The dune landscape is defined by ancient parabolic dunes, dunes formed by the erosion of large drifting sands. The Meijendel dune area has been used for water extraction since 1874. The great diversity of the landscape provides a habitat for many animal and plant species. The high dunes contribute to this diversity by acting as a barrier. The shady side of the barrier is cooler and wetter, and therefore more vegetated. Via Katwijk, back to Leiden... CITY TRIP
