Hiking
On the hike from St. Niklaus to Stalden in the Matter Valley, you can combine nature experiences with railway excitement. There's not much space in the narrow valley floor, so the hiking trail often runs close to (but still at a safe enough distance from) the railway tracks.
The starting point is the beautiful village of St. Niklaus, which is served by the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. Here, and also at your later destination in Stalden, it's worth visiting the old village center. Along the way, views of the Matter Vispa mountain river and the railway line alternate, sometimes directly beside it, sometimes from higher ground, such as on the Kalpetran high-altitude trail. You'll also continue your journey by train at the end of the tour.
