Roda di Vaèl Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Roda di Vaèl refuge is located 2,283 meters above sea level on the Ciampaz saddle, in the heart of the Catinaccio and Rosengarten group, among the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. It is one of the reference refuges for the Catinaccio group and, after being expanded and updated, it was dedicated to Marino Stenico, one of the most important climbers in the history of Dolomite mountaineering, as well as the founder of Trentino mountaineers.

Rock Archway on the Dolomites Trail

Highlight • Natural Monument

It is difficult to say whether this "underpass" was created naturally or was helped as part of the expansion of the hiking trail. In any case, a beautiful place with a great view of the surrounding mountain landscape - and an appealing photo opportunity!

From Welschnofen with the 🚍 to Paolina and with 🚠 to the mountain station. This is where our varied and backwards, exciting/demanding + time-critical mountain tour begins. At 🔆 pure it went slightly uphill to the Rotwandhütte. The descent into the lower forest region 🌲🌲🌲 and the hike to the refuges / huts Ciampedie (access from Val de Fassa) and Gardeccia led over shady paths and forest paths. The path between the huts resembles a well-traveled forest path. 😐 After a delicious refreshment 😋 in the Refugio Gardeccia 🍳🍳🍻, we went about 250 meters uphill towards Refugia Vajolet. Before reaching the Refugio, the path branches off hard to the left to Tschager Joch/Pas de le Coronele. The ascent to the yoke (another approx. 450 meters in altitude) along the imposing Rot🟥wand proves to be demanding + exhausting. With the time pressure on our necks (last 🚠 from Kölner Hütte 5:30 p.m.), the yoke + descent (small climbs) were completed by 5:20 p.m. 🐖 had.👍

Wonderful impressions today, on our hike through the rose garden and a lot of adventure feeling, as there was one or the other challenging point to be mastered. But with mutual support we managed everything. Simply a great experience as a family. At first on the way to the Vajolet hut it was quite crowded, then on our chosen route, we saw almost no one for 3 hours, it was certainly because of the path, which was quite demanding. What we saw was a relaxed, not so shy marmot, so we could watch it for a while 🙃

Great view of the Rosengarten peaks, Marmolada and Sella. The path is not easy, you should have a head for heights and be sure-footed.
