The Via Ferrata dell'Amicizia to Cima Sat Loop is a strenuous route that generally takes around 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete. This duration includes the challenging approach hike and the via ferrata section itself.
No, this via ferrata is generally classified as demanding and is not recommended as a first via ferrata. It requires good physical and mental condition, and is particularly challenging due to its length, verticality, and the steep approach hike. It's also not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo.
The trail begins in Riva del Garda. You'll find parking options within Riva del Garda itself, though specific trailhead parking can be limited. From Riva, the approach involves a steep hike up marked paths (CAI 404 and 404B) to the start of the via ferrata.
The best seasons to tackle this route are spring and late summer. It's advisable to avoid the trail in the midday heat of summer, as the exposure and physical demands can be intensified by high temperatures.
Given the demanding nature of the route, proper safety gear is essential. This includes a helmet, a harness, and a via ferrata lanyard. Additionally, sturdy hiking boots, sufficient water, and appropriate clothing for varying mountain conditions are highly recommended.
The terrain is varied and challenging. It starts with a steep approach hike on marked paths. The via ferrata section features a series of very long metal ladders, some vertical and even slightly overhanging, interspersed with rocky sections, bolted slabs, and stony paths. There are also short stretches of exposed but manageable descent on ledges.
Yes, the route offers extraordinary and unforgettable views. As you ascend, you'll see the rooftops of Riva del Garda and the expansive blue waters of Lake Garda. From the summit of Cima Sat, the vista extends from the southern basin of Lake Garda to the entire Sarca Valley in the north. A specific highlight along the way is the Bochet of the Concolis, which offers fantastic views.
Yes, the route intersects with several other official trails. Notably, it covers significant sections of the Itinerario Garda Brenta - Tappa 1 and the Via ferrata del Bastione e della Rocchetta. You'll also find it crossing parts of the Sentiero della Pace - Tappa 6 and the Via ferrata dell'Amicizia itself.
Due to the challenging nature of the via ferrata, which includes long vertical ladders and exposed sections, this route is generally not suitable or safe for dogs. It's best to leave your canine companions at home for this particular adventure.
There are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Via Ferrata dell'Amicizia itself. However, standard rules and regulations for hiking in the region apply, and you should always respect local guidelines.
Yes, during the steep approach hike from Riva del Garda, you will pass by Capanna Santa Barbara, which is a mountain hut. This can be a good spot for a break before tackling the main via ferrata section.
Not recommended, too few km on the hm. After the church, going back down is also ok ... If you can climb via ferrata, then choose this route and use our ascent as a descent. Our descent was only through the forest, and it was very steep. Better to take the car up somewhere and then start walking.
On this via ferrata you can enjoy a great view of Riva del Garda while climbing. It consists of many long ladders, some of which are a bit rusty - but the safety ropes seem very new. The tour starts directly in Riva del Garda. From there you first go to a small chapel on the rock, where you have already completed a little more than the first 500 meters of altitude. The start of the via ferrata contains many longer walking sections until you reach the ladders. A great view awaits you at the summit of the Cima SAT. If you want, you can climb up a normal hiking trail to the Rocchetta Giochello - this tops the previous view again. The way back to Riva del Garda is quite long, however, you follow a narrow, partly sloping serpentine path.
Beautiful via ferrata with a fantastic view!! We recommend leaving early because the slope is south-facing. Via ferrata set is highly recommended for your own safety!! I would only do the valley trail with two healthy knees and hiking poles, because you have to plan at least 2 hours for it!
Today we climbed the 1245 m high Cima SAT. The oldest via ferrata on Lake Garda consists of many long ladders. The longest is 70 meters.
Beautiful via ferrata right next to Riva, you almost always have the lake in view 🤩 consists of a lot of unsecured walking terrain and many vertical ladders 🪜 Thanks @Andy im Allgäu 😍🗻⛰🏔 for the inspiration 😊
