Ah, the sun is still out :-) So off we went up the mountain. With the old chairlift near Tarsch, a long ride up to the Tarscher Alm (cost up and down in 2025: 24 euros, reduced with the guest card). From there, it was a steep climb up the ski slope and to the left through the forest. Then the path stretched out before us to the Hohen Dieb. For a while, we continued over rocks and scree through beautiful, autumnal dwarf shrub areas. Then it got increasingly rocky... ... and freezing cold. An extremely cold wind was blowing, and the sun was only visible on the opposite side of the valley most of the time. It was barely 0 degrees, so we had to put on everything we had. We made it to the HohenDieb saddle, but skipped the last 70 meters to the summit due to the cold. We'd been up there several times, so we didn't miss anything. Back to the Tarscher Alm and finally the longed-for Kaiserschmarrn, before taking the chairlift back down.
With the chairlift to the Tarscheralm. Follow the marking 15 on the very beautiful, moderately steep path, also bd Hohen Dieb peaks with great views of Vinschgau and Ulntal. Since it was not enough, descent to the Kofelrastseen, lunch break there. On the way back to the Hohen Diebscharte this again, because too strenuous (we would have preferred to admire the lakes from above)
Adventure-packed mountain tour to the promising twin peaks between Ultental and Vinschgau, accompanied by a couple with mountain experience and a sporty young woman who is not yet too familiar with high alpine conditions but who "fights bravely". This attractive mountain tour, which is technically not difficult for hikers who are used to mountains, offers a view of, among other things, on the two fantastic, crystal-clear Kofelraster mountain lakes, the Ötztal, Stubai and Zillertal Alps as well as on the Dolomites (today quite obscured by clouds) and the Ortler group, turned out to be a little adventurous today (I've already thought about aborting), there the marked path due to extensive snowfields near the summit, e.g. T. was hidden and therefore required evasive maneuvers into the scree massif.
Beautiful, but also strenuous hike. Great all-round view from the summit cross. The path goes a lot over boulders, you should bring physical fitness and keep an eye on the time of the last descent of the chairlift. If necessary, the tour around the Kofelraster lakes can be omitted. We had an experienced eleven-year-old with us, who managed the tour well.
