Hiking

Embark on a moderate hike to Col Cornier Summit from Piancavallo, a journey covering 5.7 miles (9.2 km) with an elevation gain of 1615 feet (492 metres). This route typically takes around 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete. You will ascend through serene beech forests, where the path eventually opens up to expansive views. As you climb past the Sella del Sauc, you can look out over the vast Venetian plain, with glimpses of Venice and the Euganean Hills on clear days. The trail culminates at the summit, offering a rewarding 360-degree panorama of the surrounding landscape. You will pass by Baita Arneri, which provides another scenic viewpoint before your return. This hike offers a fulfilling experience for those seeking both forest tranquility and sweeping vistas.

To begin your adventure, head to Piazzale della Puppa in Piancavallo, where a stone heart marks the starting point of the trail. The route follows the well-marked CAI 992 path, guiding you through the ascent. You can easily find parking in central Piancavallo, making access straightforward for drivers. Consider starting your hike earlier in the day to fully enjoy the views and avoid potential crowds, especially during peak seasons. Always check local weather conditions before you set out, as visibility can impact the summit experience. This trail is best enjoyed when the weather is clear, allowing for the best possible views.

Beyond the natural beauty, this trail offers a glimpse into the region's past. As you hike through the beech forests, keep an eye out for remnants of old charcoal kilns. These structures are a historical reminder of the coal miners who worked these mountains until the 1950s, adding a layer of cultural context to your outdoor experience. The summit of Col Cornier is particularly notable for its extensive views, encompassing Piancavallo, the Cansiglio plateau, and even extending to the sea on the clearest days. You will also spot prominent Dolomites peaks, including Col Nudo, Pelmo, and the Pale di San Martino, making this one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Prealpi Carniche.

Nice tour.. In the central part, a bit on the crest, you can see the Piana del Cansiglio and also the lake of S. Croce.
The last 2 km or so are a bit monotonous because they run alongside the ski slope.
