This route was planned by komoot.
On the recommendation of our host, we headed to the Birnlückenhütte 🏠, the northernmost hut in Italy 🇮🇹. We started again at the final stop 🚏of the hiking bus in Kasern. Afterwards, we walked 🚶🏼♂️🚶🏼♀️ leisurely along the Ahrn to the Kehreralm 🛖. There, the first climb ↗️ began, which, after about 30 minutes, led into a small valley with a magnificent 🤩 view. From there, you could see the hut 🏠 and, of course, the extreme 🫣 ascent. About 400 meters of steep ⛰️ ascent ⬆️ up stone steps 🪨. After this tough, very strenuous climb, we reached the Birnlückenhütte. The Birnlücke is a further 40-minute climb and offers a view of the Zillertal Valley. Because of the fog, we decided to descend. On the beautiful return journey, with a view over the Ahrntal Valley, we stopped at the Jägeralm hut and rewarded ourselves with Kaiserschmarrn.
Amazingly, my Garmin Fenix even managed 17.61 km, almost 10% more than the Komoot app. Total time 5:52:47 (but the time spent in the hut is missing), overall average 3.0 km/h, average heart rate 99, maximum heart rate 153, 891 meters of elevation gain. According to the Komoot app, time in motion 4:47, average 3.4 km/h, total time 6:10, overall average 2.6 km/h, 850 meters of elevation gain.
Great hike with a long and steep climb to the hut. Saw a family of marmots on the way.
