This route was planned by komoot.
Yes, the trail is generally considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for a wide range of hikers, including beginners and families with young children. While most of the route follows wide, accessible dirt paths, be prepared for some brief rocky sections and modest elevation changes.
The most iconic feature is the Witches' Benches (Hexenbänke), unique porphyry rock formations steeped in local folklore. You'll also enjoy breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the Dolomites from various points, including the View of the Sciliar and the La Grotte Viewpoint – Bench with View of Val d'Emosson and South Tyrol. Keep an eye out for Edelweiss Along the Trail in the alpine meadows.
The Puflatsch Alpine Loop is located on the Alpe di Siusi. Access is typically via cable car from Seis am Schlern (Siusi allo Sciliar) or Compatsch (Compaccio). Parking is available at the cable car stations. During peak season, private vehicle access to the Alpe di Siusi is restricted during certain hours, so using the cable car or public transport is often recommended.
The best time to hike this loop is typically from late spring (June) through early autumn (September/October). During these months, the alpine meadows are vibrant with flowers like edelweiss and gentian, and the weather is generally pleasant for hiking. Always check local weather conditions before you go.
Yes, the Puflatsch Alpine Loop is generally dog-friendly. However, dogs must be kept on a leash, especially in nature park areas and near grazing livestock. Always ensure you carry enough water for your dog and clean up after them.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the trails within the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park, including the Puflatsch Alpine Loop. However, standard fees apply for cable cars or public transport used to access the Alpe di Siusi.
Yes, there are several mountain huts conveniently located along or near the trail where you can stop for refreshments or a meal. Notable options include the Dibaita – Puflatsch Hut, as well as the Arnika Hut and Puflatsch Hut.
The terrain primarily consists of wide, well-maintained dirt paths through alpine meadows. There are some brief rocky sections and modest elevation changes, including a few short, steeper ascents or descents. Overall, it's a comfortable path suitable for most hikers.
Yes, the Puflatsch Alpine Loop (officially known as Puflatschumrundung - Giro del Bulacia) is a complete loop. It also briefly intersects with sections of the Schnürlsteig trail at various points.
We recommend wearing comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, as some sections can be rocky. Layered clothing is advisable due to changing mountain weather. Bring water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and a camera to capture the stunning views. A light rain jacket is also a good idea.
Beyond the famous Witches' Benches, the trail is known for its vibrant alpine flora. You can spot delicate Edelweiss Along the Trail and deep blue gentian flowers in the meadows. The geological formations of the Witches' Benches themselves are also a unique natural highlight.
Great circular route on the Alpe di Siusi, which is always beautiful. The tour is not too long and is recommended in changeable weather, as the clouds don't get stuck here right away. Otherwise there are two or three rest stops.
Today we wanted to take a more relaxed approach to the hike; does not mean long distances and no steep sections. And if you're ever in the area, then you should visit the Seiser Alm, even if it's already quite "overcrowded" as a tourist hotspot. With today's great weather, the number of visitors was probably even higher, but fortunately the crowds dispersed a bit. Another critical thing to note is that it is quite expensive there. The ascent and descent costs €24 per person, the dog €4. Whatever you do best... 🤗 We did the Puflatsch tour. First we went to the Arnika hut, where we had refreshments. From there to the witches' benches and always along the edge with great views of the Val Gardena and the rugged rock faces around the Col Raiser. The panorama with the Sella group and the dominant Sassolungo and Sassopiatto mountains is also impressive. The landscape is also really phenomenal. After all, we are still on the We stopped at Tschötsch-Alm and enjoyed a fluffy and delicious Kaiserschmarrn, which we could smell as we approached. 🤤 After these beautiful experiences, the hustle and bustle at the cable car and the full bus could no longer harm us. OM. 😌
The most beautiful tour in the South Tyrolean Alps so far. Everything was just perfect, from the weather to the refreshment stops and the varied hiking trails to... and above all, the beautiful views of the valleys and mountains... New, even more beautiful views constantly open up here... The landscape is simply stunning, almost impossible to capture in photos.... If there's one criticism, it's perhaps that you're probably never alone on the first section, along wide gravel paths... It's very family-friendly. From about the second half of the route, the hiking trails become narrower and sometimes run directly along the slope... There was hardly anything else going on here. For me, up here, an absolute recommendation... Fantastically beautiful 🏔️☀️🥾🌲😍👍
Today the Puflatsch circuit, PU!, was on the agenda. I've seen something similar with @Armin Allgäu, thanks for the inspiration Armin 😊👋. A beautiful day on the Seiser Alm. Marie 🍀 🌍 🎈
Dogs are required to wear a muzzle on all public transport. This is strictly observed in the cable car. If you don't have one with you, you are not allowed to ride or have to buy a muzzle. Bruno interpreted the muzzle requirement in his own way 😍
The sun is calling and we have heard it. With the lift from Seis up to the Alm and down to the Puflatsch. The path was known from last year, but the great views were still inspiring again.
