San Donato Park – Sundial and Leonardo da Vinci Concavities

Park equipped with play equipment, picnic tables and benches. The San Donato area is equipped with a scenic route and some facilities for outdoor free-body sports. The park is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci: 2 structures were built on the basis of drawings made by Leonardo Da Vinci, called "concavities". At the base of the cavities, users have the ability to activate the acoustic propagation of traditional sounds similar to those emitted by horns, instruments used by shepherds in the sixteenth century. Si parte dal centro storico di Sogliano al Rubicone, ma prima si consiglia di visitare il “Museo Leonardo da Vinci e la Romagna”, dedicato al viaggio fatto da Leonardo in Romagna nel 1502. Il museo si trova nel Palazzo della Cultura, che ospita altre mostre permanenti, anch’esse senz’altro meritevoli d’essere viste: il “Museo della Linea Christa”, la “Collezione Veggiani”, la “Mostra permanente del disco e della registrazione musicale” e la “Collezione di Arte Povera”. Nella stessa strada, via Pascoli, si può notare un bell’albero di biancospino, noto per il fatto di essere molto vecchio. Entro i confini del centro storico meritano una visita anche il Museo delle miniere, le caratteristiche fosse del formaggio di Sogliano DOP e l’antica ghiacciaia.
Il Cammino di Leonardo ha una lunghezza di 7,2 km e non presenta particolari difficoltà, a parte un paio di discese un po’ ripide e scivolose. Il tempo di percorrenza totale è calcolato in 2 h 30. Ci si incammina inizialmente verso il Campo sportivo comunale percorrendo il sentiero CAi n. 155 dirigendosi verso il fiume Uso. Un sipario naturale di canne conduce ad un bosco caratterizzato dalla presenza di Pino nero, vetuste querce, piante di sambuco e varie piante di more, i cui frutti, nella stagione giusta, sono di conforto ai viandanti. Arrivati a valle si costeggiata per un tratto l’alveo fluviale e si inizia quasi subito la risalita, abbastanza impegnativa, seppur breve verso Sogliano al Rubicone. Si arriva al Parco S. Donato di Vignola, nel quale sono presenti due “concavità”, realizzate in base ai disegni di Leonardo: si tratta di incavature coniche scavate nel terreno che anticamente servivano ai pastori per amplificare i suoni dei corni, potendo così comunicare a grandi distanze. All’interno del parco segnaliamo anche il Tempietto di San Donato, antico oratorio oggi dedicato alla pace. Lasciato il parco e raggiunta la vicina Chiesa di Vignola, si nota facilmente, a ridosso di una scarpata una bella Roverella plurisecolare, alta 18 m e con una circonferenza alla base di 3,4 m. L’ultima tappa è presso il grande manufatto dell'Uomo Vitruviano, anch’esso realizzato in base ai disegni di Leonardo da Vinci prima di entrare nel paese di Sogliano al Rubicone.
