However, depending on your fitness level and chosen variant, routes can range from 2 hours for easier sections to over 5 hours for more challenging options with greater elevation gain.
While some sections are suitable for all skill levels (classified as SAC 1), many routes to Marteller Hütte are considered moderate (SAC 2-3). These require good fitness and sure-footedness. Beginners should choose an easier variant, which might involve less elevation gain and shorter distances, and ensure they are prepared for potentially steep climbs.
The terrain is diverse. You'll find easily accessible paths through forests and alpine meadows initially. As you gain elevation, expect dirt roads, forested paths, and wild trails. Some sections may include steep switchbacks and boulder fields. More demanding variants can involve secured paths with ropes or even glacier crossings.
Along the route, you'll encounter several notable points of interest. These include the Marteller Hut / Martello Refuge itself, a Small Summit Cross, and stunning View of Marteller Hütte. You might also see a Glacier in Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, a Small Mountain Lake in Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, and the impressive Konzentschatter Waterfall and Wooden Bridge.

Great hike to the Martellhütte at 2610 m through the Plima Gorge in the Martell Valley👍
From the parking lot at the Enzianhütte, we took the direct route to Randomhütte and on to the so-called "Bau" (dam built at the end of the 19th century to protect against glacial lake eruptions). From the building we went up to the Martellerhütte (2,610 m) and back via path 37 above the Unfall waterfall back to the Enzianhütte. The path 37 back is a real recommendation, because here you get comparatively close to the glaciers and the deposits such as ground moraines etc. can be observed very nicely. => Unfortunately, the app. the first four kilometers from the Enzianhütte to the building are not recorded. 🇮🇹🏔️🥾🌤️🥾🏔️🇮🇹
As impressive and beautiful as it was 6 years ago! This tour is "close to heaven"! The unspoilt extension with path 40 after descending via "path" 37 (a bit rocky) brought great panoramic views and rustic, natural sections at the end.
Thursday: Today we went through the Plimaschlucht adventure trail with an extension to the Martellerhütte. Great weather and panorama. Larks with autumn colors. Great vantage points in the Plima Gorge and delicious cakes at the top of the Martellerhütte with a fantastic view of the surrounding mountain peaks. Hike highly recommended. Didn't press pause at the hut, hence the criss-cross.
